Guys and Gals,
I am really sorry to say this but in the big brand name of JVC... The RC M60 and RC M80 has CRAP!!!
CRAP!!!
CRAP!!! sound!!!!
I am not going to try and develope that the "Harmonics", "The Low Ends", "The High Ends", "The Full Body" of this and that, those and the others.... are bad because... they JUST have crap sound!
I am waiting on the RC M50 (I have read, here not to long ago, that it had "Bass" not too much treble... Hey, I will see and let you know what
I think (if that can count for anything
.
Later
the m80?bad sound,bred?
it may be not a boom boom machine but its a good sounder-i love it, including the sound.turn the m80 up a bit and its got more there than you think mate.
Yeah, well.... It dose not do it for me.
I am listening to the M60 righ now and that is just reproducing sound to me... it is not making me fell like the Musicians are in my living room like the M90 would (for example.
Let me go ahead and put the M80 on for an hour or so and test with personal recording and studio recording...
i agree andy
the m80 has great sound mate, and in my opinion is a good box.
don,t be put off by other peoples opinions, remember it,s all about personal taste.
i heard good things about the m70 and when i got 1 i thought it was just average.
i have yet to come across a box that matches my philips d8614 for quality all round

The other people say, "Wad-Evvverr!"
People have to remember these are over 20yr boxs, capacitors deteriorate, one may sound good, while the other one may sound like cr#p.
The only way to really tell how they were design to sound is to bring the box up to factory specs, IE change all the capacitors and recalibrate bias circuits for RC/PB and so forth, which cost money and some time, did this to my m90 a couple years back, sounds way better then my friends m90, he even noticed it, so now I am working on his.
Mmmmmmmm... I had tree M80s same sound.
But your info is logical, and I must incline myself and say mine might be in need of a good tune-up.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone said the M60 and M80 have a bad sound, because the JVC boxes I have (656 & 838), sound 'just average'. Plus in the headphones world, all JVCs I've listened to sound bad in comparison to Sony headphones. It seems JVC products don't sound amazing. Though I'm assuming from all the hype that the M90 is streets ahead of all other JVCs.
Oh Boy I have to add my two cents I own all the JVC RC M line, I listen to all of these units time to time , the weakest sounding unit is the RC M50 if I recall back in the day it was the latest to be released, my opinion it was just released towards the end of the great sounding era.The M 50 has very clear crisp sound however lacks deep sound of bass , the M 80 is smooth sounding box with lots of extras such as the soft touch controls and pre sets for the radio, not as deep bass as the M 70 due the different style (speakers) Cabinet and weight but it is very well built unit, everyone is entitled to their opinions, in fact the RC M70 and the RC M90 are top notch portables.

I have an 838 too, and it's VERY well built, but horrible sounding......Unless all you listen to is news broadcasts

I had a M 70 for a short while and the sound of it was crap.

Hi Eddy, how ya doin'?
To be honest never like how any of the JVC's sounded, but then again don't like how any boombox sounds. But with Solenoid controls were the best. Had some class for boomboxs of it's time, sound doesn't have to be amazing, but was ok at best and didn't or clip/distort like most boomboxs. I only have the JVC M90 because my father gave it to me and I restore it fully, with new caps, belts, pinch rollers and good cleaning, he paid $450 at the time for it, is a nice looking unit, but prefer the AIWA CS-880 with 40 watts of clean power with 3d sound and best cassette deck on any boombox made I seen to date and digital PLL tuner is my favorite. But JVC still louder with it dual 8" subwoofer and 90 watts of power, JVC M90 is the one you would bring to the streets.

Going back to Fance... FuUcked up here! But not as bad as Greece!!!!!
In about a year (unless things get better!).
I've yet to hear anything that sounds as good as an M90.
It could use more boom in it's low end tho.
id love an m90 monolithic-hope to source one from the states/canada/japan when my grandparents house sells by auction next week.but itll be a few weeks before i see any money, sadly
The M90 is worth the wait, Andy, if you can find one in good condition.
It's not much of a "looker", but the overall sound is amazing! It also doesn't distort as much - if at all - as other boxes do from "6" to maximum volume - it's VERY powerful! Believe the hype when people tell you it may be the best 1-piece box ever made!

I agree I have had an m60 m70 and m80 they all sound crap, the m90 is way better...
M70 is NOT that bad...
How do you guys think the M70 compares to other midsizes, like the GF9191, TPR950, Universum 16000, etc?
if the universum is an AKA tele 8200 -
then --its better than all those - imho

Yeah that's what I meant --- 8200/16000 same thing......I've got an 8200 but I didn't think most people would recognize the name. You seriously think this is better than an M70? Why do people always pay $300-400 for M70's then? There's 2-3 on Ebay every week, yet people keep paying those kind of prices. Is it because they remember it from their youth or something?
...the price of M70 are so high because when you compare it to any midsize box its size or even bigger it destroys it on power and overall sound. If any of you had an M70 that sounded like "crap" then obviously there was something wrong with it. I have had 5 M70's and was only lucky enough to find 1 without any issues and the sound is incredible. If they were crap I don't think they would be on every collectors list...just my 2 cents...
Never made to my list, but
- those boxes ALWAYS sell well on eBay.
However, if I see another Victor RC-M70 that came with a ___________, like the one I saw a year ago...
The M50 to my ears has a terrible balance to its sound.Though VERY loud, its a totally unsatisfying and bizarre sounding box.The highs are just swallowed up by its powerful mids. The fact it has simple bass and treble pots doesn't allow you to push more extreme highs to correct this.If you turn the bass all the way up,it still isn't good enough to give a natural balance to its sound. It's a box that BEGS for an equalizer. It may suffice for folk music or as a PA system but not for full sounding music. It leaves one to wonder what JVC was thinking when they designed it.
The 70 to my ears only sounds balanced if you really push the volume. Then its pretty amazing! However,I don't always want to listen at those levels.I feel a good boomer should sound nice at any volume level. The 50 is really beautiful and the 70 looks and feels powerful and indestructible. The 70 feels amazing in your hands and everyone needs the experience.

I feel the same way about the GE 3-6035A.......It's a loud-ass box, but it sounds kind of flat at low volume levels, even with the bass and treble set at max. You really need to crank it up, and even when you do, the bass is biased towards kicker type bass instead of warm bass.
When I want to listen at low volumes, I use my TPR-950 or my Crown 850. Those boxes put out nice warm bass at low volumes.
can i just add guys, if you want a box that sounds amazing at any level of volume, id have to say the pioneer sk909L.
it truly sounds amazing at any level
another one is the philips d8614 sound machine, the one you see in my avvy.
not massive on bass but excellent sound at all levels too

never had the pleasure of owning that particular aiwa, but iv,e heard great things about it
so il,e have to agree with you
another model which fits the criteria would be a sansui i once owned, but i forget the model number
You should also get one of those boxes I posted......Universum Super Sound 16000 (aka Telefunken CR 8200). Very nice sound, classy looks, but low price.
Guess I have to add more cents, wow I am dedicated JVC owner from back in the day 1980-1986 was the unit to own. The first JVC I heard was the RC M70 hands downs a very well balanced machine, highs lows, I must agree with mellymelsr for someone to comment negatively about the RC M70 the unit must of been faulty, getting back to question in hand about the RC M60 and 80 these machines were designed with soft touch control the silver cabinets not for deep sounds as the visional speakers, both sound good in the correct settings, My opinion these machines were the peak of this era and is the reason they are often sought after, and the reason we are speaking about them 30 years after the manufacturing dates of many .
They were more for looks and usage of the radio...
