Hi all,
The kitchen radio needs an upgrade.
What I'm after is a top quality 3pc which must have:
• top sound quality
• 3pc
• "proper" aux-in
• CD (playing CD-Rs would be nice)
• tuner presets - not neccessarily digital

Panasonic's RX-DT680 was looking favourite until I found it has no proper aux-in.
Any other RX-DTs maybe?

Grundig Party Center 2000 (no CD though)

my nomination would be a mid sized 1 piece box for the kitchen with aux in, maybe a philips d8614 which i am now using in my kitchen, after changing it over for my hitachi trk 8290.
the philips has a great sound to it, a bit too big for the kitchen but i promise you would love the rich sound that it pumps out.
i know its not a 3 piece which i guess you prefer, but iv,e tried lots of radios in my kitchen over a few year period, and believe me the philips is way above the rest keep in mind though i42, it,s all about personal taste

by the way i have 2 of the philips models so i have listed 1 for trade on here with description and pics, just thought i would add this incase some members have,nt stumbled it yet

a cassette adaptor..

Or a FM Transmitter..
Either that or you could find a Panasonic RX-CT990,Same as DT680 but no cd but has aux in..

Another nice box is a Jvc Pc5 or Pc55,they have aux in and look & sound top quality..

...in my office I use my JVC PCV2J, which has top quality 3D sound with very solid bass via a center channel subwoofer, plays cassettes and cd's, and has a proper aux input. It also is the perfect size for a kitchen. It has big sound in a relatively small package...

theres only 1 box you should have and thats a sony fh-7 mk2.....superb sound...dedicated line in...apm speakers....i was so impressed that i have 4 of them........

I wouldn't mind having one of these. How does it compare to the dt680, especially in the bass department?

i also have a fh-7 although not mk2 still the sound is amazing, so powerfull, kicks like a mule.

I've always had a soft spot for Philips stuff from around 1984, as my first 2 stereo boomers were Philips. However, it needs to be a 3pc I'm afraid, as I want speakers either side of a TV screen (yeh, I know, in the kitchen? )

Indeed, & you've named a few... I've got an FM transmitter & a cassette adaptor, but I need aux-in that can be left on for extended periods. My wife & kids will be using this setup too, so I want it to be normal & simple.
...RX-CT990, Pc5 & Pc55 all no CD, altough the CT990 is tempting. The tuners on those Panasonics are amazing

Do you really use CDs that often anymore?

Even if you do, just get a CD discman/walkman and plug it into the line-in.

why don,t you just get a big 1 piecer and plonk the tv on top and get a nice cd seperate running through your line in, matching colours of course.
a bit bulky i know but hey, that's what old skools all about, that,s what id do but then again i am a bit insane so don,t listen to me

Rx-ds620. tuner presets, cd, 3-piece, aux in, don't know how good they sound, the one I have I bought dead.

If it were just up to me, I'd put some of my spare hifi separates in, but there are several other people in this house of mine (wife, kids...) who think kitchens should have space for stuff like a microwave, kettle, toaster, etc. what can you do, eh?
