so guys, what are your impressions of this model then?just picked one up at a small carboot for a fiver-my most significant find yet-it has twin red led meters, twin cassette with autoreverse, surround sound, 3d bass,6 speaker system, and recall sharp says its got a pmpo of 200w!wow!it only says 27w on the back though-presume this is rms.have yet to test it for problems/blown speakers etc.but these kind of things dont usually come my way.to say im over the moon is an understatement.at last-a find significant enough to be a keeper forever.not an early 80s 1 piece, my main love, but definately a keeper for sure.and no, theres no picture chaps, sorry-all i can say is most of you have seen what this looks like before;only difference is mine is slightly battered, needs a good clean and tidy up.so, away you go, tell us your views of this model:
the 27 watt you see on the back is the power consumption andy, not the actual power output.
iv,e had 1 before their quiet nice boxes, last year at skeg i picked up the 3d88, the cxw500 with cd on, and a 9100, all for £12 mate.
they were all quiet mint too and working fully, apart from the 9100 tape deck.
there not really my thing but there good for trades, or to sell.
anyway decent find for a fiver, keep you quiet for a bit now eh
thanks me old pal for the nice comments-and you know me i am never quiet
i am very impressed with this unit-so loud and bassy, its not true-has to be my best sounding box.got it home and did the full test-1 deck plays, spindles turn etc but no sound
but other deck works perfect, all features work-not tested the suuround button yet because the button is missing, ill have to poke something into the hole to activate it and i dont want to electricute myself
but real radio sounds great blaring out of it-and depeche mode "just cant get enough"booming out of it earlier sounded really, really good.
sorry lav but this is not for trade-this is a keeper-its gonna fit in nicely with my m80, 5600 and sharp 5p37g tv box next week when i get it.
good buy you made though mate-all those boxes for 12 quid-good buy-you should have kept the 3d88 though-its worth the 12 quid on its own!!!!!
i know it was a good buy andy and i would have easy paid the £12 just for the 3d88, but like i said there not really my thing.
glad your happy with yours though mate.
ahhh the old 3D88 a great machine good volume and bass my second best box!!(first being the 767)I would say is better sounding as well but hasn't the volume of the 767, It lasts very well on batterys as well. For a fiver if it works is a bargain they make around £50 on ebay!!

So Lav Loo, you've got a CXW500 eh, what do you want to trade?, you've seen my boxes on the collections site under "AT Last".
sorry ade it,s gone mate
i got rid along with the other 2 a while back.
i only pick the 3d,s up to trade mate, i don,t usually have hold of em for long.
im gutted now, i see you have the panny 5250, and a few trk 8190,s, i love them models
C'est La Vie buddy, or, sh+t happens
Never mind, next time.
yeah chaps the 3d88 is a nice machine, if not too exotic-yeah lav like you i dont rate the 3d's-had 3d8/3d70 i think it was/3d30 and these last 2 i bought on one day and sold them on for a profit the next-the 3d88 is the keeper of them all though-but for me you just cant beat nice and early 80s shoulder carrying-big 1 piece silver boxes!
, but i think you,d change your mind if you met the super jumbo, it,s a stunner
It can take me a while but I get there in the end...
The 3D88 is definitely one of the best of the Hitachi 3Ds, especially considering it's a later model.
Features are all good - bigger roll-edged woofers, 5 band EQ, single-slider volume control, twin decks with full auto stop & one with auto-reverse, surround, pretty lights, etc.
RMS (10% THD) output for the 3D80 & 3D88 is 14 watts: 3W for left & right full-range & 4W for each centre woofer.
The 3Ds aren't everone's cup of tea because of the non-"classic" styling & comparitively cheap build, non-servo decks, etc.
However, when new, they were significantly cheaper than the top-of the line kit from the likes of Sony, Panasonic, JVC, etc.
If you're happy to accept that boomers aren't hifi, a decent 3D fulfills the boobox criteria pretty well, IMHO
i agree with all that i42.thanks for the valuable advice too mate.
never can resist the chance to bang on about the Hitachi 3Ds
hey isolator mate-check this out-just landed the 3d88's sistership-the 3d80-for seven and a half quid
so mate, which is the best model cos i cant tell the difference

Keep banging on isolator, i can't get enough of Hitachi 3D's especially cd models, very versatile boomers and very easy to strip down.
When are we going see your 3D collection.
just for bill the dustbinman

Inside, in terms of electronics amplification & speakers, they're identical. I have both & can't tell any difference at all in the sound.
If I had to choose I'd have the 3D88, as it looks a bit more "proud of itself"(?)
Both are
properly loud & thrashable, but there's plenty of other boomers out there that will out-do it for sound quality. Still, that was never the point of a 3D. They're all about lots of boom for your bucks, I reckon
Yeh, you're right, I really should get em all out, dust em down & get some half decent pics of em...
Hello Kitty!
Hi Ed, how's tricks?
