ok cats,
whats the best songs for your box then?
for me, modern wise it has to be cascada's "evacuate the dancefloor" cos its a bassy song and really gets the audiosonics speakers pumping-old skool it has to be michael jackson,or any one of my number of 80s compo tapes-ohhhh yeah!
Paul Hardcastle - Rainforest
Mantronix - Ladies
KeyMatic - Breakin' In Space
To name but a few....

Andy,Try some Loose Ends e.g Hanging On a String,Or some Sos Band,Remember...80s tunes were made for 80s boxes, most of the modern stuff makes these boxes sound crapp..over modulating, over clipping, basically they are recorded tooo loud for 80s boxes to handle, drives the amp and speakers too hard and they dont like it..
Also,good selection steppa...classics !
i notice that a lot, getto, some of my boxes do crap out on modern day songs cos, like you say they were made for 1980s tunes, not all the modern jungle music-i very rarely like modern stuff anyway-i dont have mp3/ipod etc cos i dont want them-absolute rubbish-i dont even have many more than 5 cd's.my collection is tapes-and 99.99% of them are old school tapes.just love it
heres a few of my faves.
freeez, i.o.u.
ollie an jerry, breakin
depeche mode, just can,t get enough
human league, love action
oh and...color me bad, i wanna s*x u up
these are my kinda box tunes
and of course, some late 80,s House music
artists like s,express, bomb the bass, hithouse, and a real cool tune by Krush called house arrest
True gettoman, modern stuff doesn't distort my boxes it just sounds like the compressed, spitty, tiring dirge that it is. 80's / early 90's material actually had DYNAMICS, contrast between loud and soft sounds...
To be fair, FM radio is the worst culprit - over-zealous use of compression to make everthing REALLY LOUD AND 'IN YER FACE' ALL THE TIME WITHOUT ANY ROOM FOR THE SOUND TO BREATHE.
Phew!
Anyway, back on topic....
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - Wonder If I Take You Home
Total Contrast - Hit & Run
Kashif - I Just Gotta Have You
herbie hancock---------rockit
the message----grandmaster flash and the furious 5
plus any 80`s electronic stuff..............great
im.out.of.hear - 2010-06-05 15:41
yes yes steppa, does'nt matter what box i play,if i switch the tuner on,you dont get no sound level, the led's just all light up,or vu sweem needles just fly accross to full, totally crap !!
ha ha ha dave,i have all the electro's on mp3,and i was playing them all today through my laptop into my conion,it was good to listen too, cant beleve i used to blast them on the street when i was 13-14-15 years old,and i still listen to them sometimes, just sound slightly embarrassing now though ...
I'd have to say 'Never Too Much' by Luther Vandross, just check out the video; it's all boxes!
80's electric funk...Looking For the Perfect Beat and Pack Jam...The Show by Dougie Fresh is also perfect boombox music...
good choices lav-have several of those artists/somgs in my tape collection.now if only i could get a c100 to play them on.

the cranberries-linger
I think any song that can remind me of when I was jamming my Aiwa Cs880 while playing hoop back in the early 80s is my favs because it just makes me reminice to the best times. Tom Sawyer, Cars-Gary Numan,Shout at the Devil- Motley Crue, I Love Rock n Roll-Joan Jett, Dokken, Billie Jean and alot of the stuff they were playing on MTV was at the same time the songs you heard coming from the boomboxes.
