Hello all, i was just wanting opinions on what you like best on your boxes, Needles Or Led,s??
personally i love both, but i like the led,s on my philips more than any other
here,s a pic
please bare in mind the pic was took in daylight so they don,t appear very bright, shame coz at night these led,s are amazing
could,nt do a night shot cos the flash would kill the lights
well you know me az, i preferr needles
I think it all depends on the box!!! but needles seem to break easier.
im.out.of.hear - 2010-06-15 10:13
yeah i like both, but does depend on the box,i dont like the ones (like on my 9000) that just wonder around doing there own thing instead of going to the beat, the Panasonic RX5600 And the Aiwa TPR950 are very accurate,i actually enjoy staring at them while they dance,I like led's like on my Jumbo, and Sharp GF9500,i dont like the single line led's like on GF990,GF700 ect..i like the look of the ones on the GF999,thats why i want one, they are like the 777 but with full meter needles, not the crappy little slit in the tuner dial like the 777,if you dont look hard you would think it did'nt have any at all..thats the only thing about the 777 i dont like...
ye i have to agree about the 777 needles G,MAN
their barely visible, but like you say it is the only bad thing on that box
im.out.of.hear - 2010-06-15 10:27
lav,one day you may come accross a 9000,that will make you laugh, you think they look awsome because they have huge needles, but when you watch them trying to keep up with the music, there like a drunken teenager, wafting around on there own,its a shame because the box itself is a monster, looks brilliant and sounds ok..but on the RX5600 and TPR950,they keep up no problem, they are brilliant to watch, even the sanyo 4500 have a good quality needle meter, very accurate and keep up with the music perfectly..
iv,e gotta say G,MAN, irresponsive led,s on a box can kill it a bit for me
i have had the 5600 and i totally agree with you, they are spot on.
i have also had the 5500 and the led,s are a bit irresponsive on that box too, but i still love the 5500 it is a classic box
i think i could cope with the led,s on the 9000 as i just love the look of it
anyone want to trade one for a blockbuster
VU meters are nice as long as they have good ballistics. I like a fairly fast attack and a slow decay, otherwise they ping around like crazy and don't really give much of an idea of overall level. LED's can be cool too, I like the 9696 with it's red & green and Lav's Philips looks really cool. The Crown 5100 LEDS are a huge let down, they only move with the midrange, hardly any movement from the bass beat.
i do like a good vu needle and cos im into my sony`s i like these led`s spectrum....sorry there not lit up in the pic...its not plugged in
http://i45.tinypic.com/34fy9v6.jpg
...depends on the box...the lit needles on the Tosh S90 are beautiful...but I also love the led's on my Rising 20/20...
ye i agree about the rising led,s
i had one once and was very impressed with the led,s on it

...yeh I love the looks of the Rising...and good sound, but short on power. I am in the process of fixing that little problem...adding a beefier amp...and maybe speakers if they can't handle the new power.

i agree to all the above points.
G-Man i feel ya on the GF777/999 thing. I just love the full size VU on my 999, rather than the small window on the 777.
in my eyes all my boxes got the matching vu's. the quality boxes and quality lookers do have needles and the plastic big guns got big shiny LED's which go nice with the all flashy design of them boxes.
some really good interesting points you,ve all posted here guys, thanks, still some pics would be great
thanks all, smile
im.out.of.hear - 2010-06-17 09:26
yep lav,i would love some good quality pics of kids 999..
i loooove the looks of that box..i actually prefure the 999 because it has black speakers and has the 777 crossbars over the outer bass, also prefure the GF999 tape doors to the 1000 doors, and finally, the 999 is more stealth compared to the 1000,more calmer in its looks, the 1000 is too out loud, but saying all that,i do prefure the 999 but i would'nt be upset if i ended up with a 1000..

Yoo Master Z,In the Place 2 BE ..
Kool pics my man,you have a good camera,i only have a old 2mp so my pics are not that good,i love those rising led's..
the pics are cool MZ
gotta love that rising shot with the trainers, or would that be sneakers??
and G,MAN don,t think i have ever seen the 999 so ye pics would be cool, also i thought someone would have traded one on your conion!! i would, smile
Almost forgot, the Pioneer SK757 LEDS are nice, 12 per channel. Excuse the dark pic.
kid.sensation - 2010-06-17 12:48
ain't got a camera atm , but you guys can check out my 999
herethere are 2 so-so pics of the VU-area on the first site.
if i get back my mobile-phone from the repair this week i'll do some new shots, as i also want to post a up-do-date from my collection anyway.
as for LED's i absolutely love my J-1:
hey 2 steppa, love the pioneer mate
pure quality, and ks, love the jumbo led,s they look awesome, smile
kid.sensation - 2010-06-17 15:06
just went through some of my collections-pics on my HDD and what can i say. in my eyes, aiwa had the best needle-meters.
eg on the CS-880:
not only looks, also function is perfect on these.
tpr-990 was also fine, aswell as the ones on the tpr-950 i guess.
kid.sensation - 2010-06-17 15:11
also loved the VU-section of my CFS-77:
ye very nice needles, i like the needles on my blockbuster, and the ones on a sony cfs88 i had, beaaaaaautiful, smile
im.out.of.hear - 2010-06-17 15:41
Kid,Looove that GF999,my all time favorite box of all time,of all time,of all all timee time
and love the J1,i have the same box..its Huuuuge, loud, bassy and lots of lights, one of the best boxes for a light show..the madonna discolite ghetto i had was brilliant for a light show but it sounded awfull,so i sold it for the whole sum of £200..that was a bargain !!
hey G,MAN i would of snatched the discolite of you at that price
i believe some boxes have needles and led,s, would i be right in saying the sanyo mx920 has them both?? cool
The Aiwa TPR-950 has the best needles, because they operate for ALL input sources, no matter if it's the radio, tape, or aux. You don't have to press Record to make them work. And by the way, they are true VU, not a fake meter that fluctuates based on volume setting. That's not VU. Also, this box has peak LED's right next to the needles, like all the high-end decks back then. Aiwa had their **** together when they built this box. There is no other midsize box with as many features.
like iv,e said before it,s all about personal choice, for me the philips beats any mid size box, period
great shots RETRO, love the upside down needles on the national, and the led,s on the fisher, lovely
very cool pics RELI, without any doubt, love the marantz needles very unique, gotta love the crown needles too, lovely stuff
Sharp WF-939 is the coolest for me
i love needles formost fist..then LEDs...but do like both very much...its why the conion c100f is on the top of my list...has a little of both worlds...

well i love both the 999 and 1000 i say the same as you say Ghetto.. the 999 has a stealthy sinister look to it...but the 1000 has a high tech look to it and unique parts not found on the enitre 777 family...i had the entire family once but sold almost all of them ..unfortunately...

i know what you mean bout the 777 VUs...Ghetto...but i think sharps intention was to make it look like the parts are in order in a stealthy hi-tech appearance...more like robocops visor, its slim but he sees through it..
but yeah the wide eyed look of the 999 and 1000 are awesome...

Needles.
Definitely!
They look more proffesional then leds.
Sorry lav but i think the 8614 would have looked even better with needles.

no probs RICHARD, but i have to disagree here sorry, i think the led,s go great on the d8614, i think needles would look silly on it
also what you say about needles looking more professional, i agree with that too, but you can,t beat led,s at night
oh and BODS, them led,s are cool mate, thanks for posting
