2007 Retrospect

Partly because I was specifically targeting the
amazing February 2007 line-up of Rambo Estrada
(one of the most memorable photo' collections I've seen since joining Stereo2Go in July[?] 2008) and partly because I was hunting clear close-ups of the mighty JVC RC-M90, I went back to Rambo's 2007 line-up and also found Retro Addict's July 2007 display. They've both got great collections (WAY beyond what I'll ever have, I'm sure), but I note the "Hortex" model in Rambo's line-up: I wonder how many people here on Stereo2Go knows that a (probably) better-known brand name of that design is HELIX -- the Helix HX-4636, I believe. It's kind of similar to my Helix HX-4633N that I've talked (or griped!) about on this site. But I think the '4636 is a bit bigger, more "chromed up," with a back-canted four-band tuner section and a meagre-looking five-band equalizer (as opposed to the one-knob Bass/Treble control of my '4633N). And the HX-4636 has probably got a pair of rear auxiliary connectors to play world-band receivers, CD players, iPods, etc., through the speakers; no such feature with my HX-4633N, as I crossly noted only AFTER I got home with the then-new unit back in 2001 (frown). That rear-connector feature is something my Cougar J-8383-K had before I lost it to its suddenly going "dead" in late October 2000 -- in addition to the Cougar being a slightly larger boombox with speaker-perimeter disco lights, a nice, mirrored, signal-strength indicator and TEN good-sized equalizer notches (SIGH). But let's not complain lest we lose the good things we DO have (smile).

Switching gears a bit, the Aiwa CS600 in Retro's
same-year line-up has a tuner-area top section that looks rather detachable, especially with the 'box slightly rotated in the second photo'. Kind of unnerving, I thought while first seeing it today (LOL).
