today i decided to go into the back of a beat up hitachi trk 8290 that i have, i am hoping to gain some knowledge on how things work and where things are located in as many boxes as i can in order to be able to do my own work on them one day maybe.
as i dismantled it i was shocked to see some microchips on the led display panel with the brand name SHARP on them
anyway i took the part out and iv,e put a pic up below, the microchips in question are the rectangle shape dark grey objects you can see.
you may just be able to work out the sharp name on the lower part of the chips to the left. sorry about the pic it,s the best i could do.
anyway i was just baffled as to why hitachi would use sharp components i was wandering if anyone else knew of this and could help explain why this is

I dont think Sharp makes microchips.
The chips were probably made by Hitachi and the Sharp name put on it.

That same part probably comes with different names on it.
In some cases you will never know who realy made the part.

But that is an odd one to see another brand name in there.

But it might of been a mistake, someone reaching into the wrong bin for the parts

There are sharp chips in the conion c100 also lav.... most manufactureres were in each others pockets even back then...

YEAH I HAVE BOXES OPEN ALL THE TIME AND YOU WOULDNT BELIEVE THE AMONT OF COMPONENTS MANUFACTURERS USE....MITSUBISHI AND SANYO ARE COMMON PLACE IN LOTS OF BOXES ...IT SAVES ELECTRONICS COMPANIES HAVING TO MAKE COMPONENTS THEMSELVES.......MUCH CHEEPNESS

yup, a common practice.

I'd say you'll find these other-branded components in like 90% of the boomboxes out there.

as davebush said it's a way to keep production cheeper - just like taking a various box and putting your own brand on it (just like all the AKA's of different models)


it's like the european car-industry - you can find volkswagen-parts in most of SEAT's cars or SKODA for example. sometimes the brands belong to each other or just try to keep things cheeper.

The same goes on in television manufacturing, in pre lcd days, practically all the screens in TV's were made by Toshiba. Another instance, all the various makes of baked beans in Britain, who are they all made by?== Heinz

first off thanks for all the great replies guys it has answered my question fully i see what you all mean after going in the box again before, i found other components made by NEC this time.
so what we are really saying here in one respect is that a hitachi is not really a hitachi, and same for all other boxes if they were all in eachothers pockets

I think the only time you need to be worried if if you open up your radio and find baked beans!

The Japanese electronics companies all used components from each other. Matsu****a (National Panasonic) supplied components to most, even Sony. Sony made some chips, Hitachi, Toshiba, Sharp, etc, all made various components.

Each company has its strengths in components, hence why you see what you saw in each device.
