hi all, i was just putting all of my radios through their paces, i like to do this every few weeks just out of pure love for em.
after listening to them, and checking them all, i have decided that philips is my fave box make
i think philips has a certain sound to them that not many if any boxes have that iv,e ever heard, and i have had some great boxes over the years.
so there you have it, philips is my all time fave box.
i wanted to know what other members fave box manufacturer is just out of pure curiosity, so any additions here would be great, cheers

My fave brand is going to be the same as most peoples faves..sharp GFs and Jvc PC Range..they are the best quality and most popular, but i do like the cheapo brands aswell like crown sz5100,because there simple to repair, the most difficult to repair is the Aiwa TPR990,The tape decks in them are a crock of dump, pain in the butt,i never want to see one of them again...
Here are my faves:
(1) JVC
(2) Sanyo
(3) Panasonic
(4) Sony
(5) Sharp
(6) GE
(7) Prosonic
interesting, no particular brand, if i was to make a list it would probably be something like this, obviously first choice at the top, keeping in mind im listing these boxes in this order through experience of the boxes ive owned or own.
i know there are other great manufacturers like toshiba, jvc etc, but i have not had enough of these brands to make proper opinions, although i have had a bombeat wx1 and thought it was crap, ive had an m70 and m80 and was,nt overjoyed either so this is why my list consists of the brands below
PHILIPS
PANASONIC
SANYO
SHARP
PIONEER
HITACHI

your right with the mention of panasonic lad, them RX5350/7000 are high quality, and the RX C100 is an awsome box, even the DT680 is High quality..but panasonic and technics share the same mother company so i'de also say the Technics sac05 aswell,as for sanyo, the Mx920 is a beauty box..
Hitachi
Sharp
JVC
Philips

yes G,MAN the pannys are quality through an through
iv,e had the rx5300,5500,5600, and a couple of others ct900, all sounded great and built like battle tanks, philips boxes are not built as good as the panny,s and so on but i just love the sound from them.
ye the mx920 like you say is a beauty it,s actually my fave box at the mo but i did,nt put it at the top of the list because i am talking about a brand in general, not one box, do you have or have you ever had an mx920 G,MAN??
good choice by the way MUTO
im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-17 13:39
nah man,not had a 920,dont know what they sound like but they doo look nice though..
well if you ever get the chance G,MAN, grab one, their excellent boxes and sound great, very weighty well made units that reek of quality, weighted controls and all chrome face plate, feels more like high end seperates controls and switches rather than than a box
but unlike other boxes with these quality,s it still has the street look, and i like that
to me this box has everything, looks, construction, and great sound
im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-17 15:04
sounds good man,i possibly could have done a deal for that a while ago before you got it from that dodgy welsh guy boomer,he's well shadey
Based on the boxes in my collection...
1. Toshiba (BomBeat series) - Innovative and stylish designs/great looks, great sound
2. Victor - Clean designs, great sound, built like tanks
3. Sony (Zilba'p series) - Great and classy designs/great looks, good sound, solid build quality
4. Hitachi (Perdisco series) - Great designs/great looks, good sound
Panasonic
Aiwa
JVC's would rank up there too, but their styling is subpar in my opinion.
i could,nt of put that better myself RA
although i do love the design of the d8614, but ye sound on philips boxes is amazing especially the clarity, it can,t be beaten.
iv,e had the d8534 and d8634 like yourself, and they too sounded fantastic, infact iv,e had all the big philips boxes and loved them all, i still have my fave though, the d8614, will never get rid of it

I showed you this before...
It's a CFS-V8 and currently the only Zilba'p in my collection. The coolest feature is the eject mechanism that makes a motorized sound when you eject a cassette or push the door closed.
awesome pics mono....i love my sony fh series.............quality
ah yes you have shown this pic before but i could,nt remember it by name, very classy looking box, immaculate too, lovely box
im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-18 04:42

Thanks, Dave!
A friend's sister had a FH series box back in 1988 that used to sit on his dresser in the basement... SCARY loud!!!
Too bad you need a battery pack to carry it outside - not that you'd want to 'cause I assume those boxes are heavy as hell!

Yeah, it's a great looking house box, but much too delicate for outside use... Wouldn't wanna ruin the woodgrain or put (more) holes in the speaker cloth.
Thanks, LAV LOO!

That's not a Zilba'p series Sony, but it is a box I've had my eye on for a long time.
They don't pop up too often.
im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-18 05:18
it looks really nice Mono, and about the eject..if you look on the auction, this sony looks like it has electronic eject, looks like soft touch..its a real nice box,but theres no way he will ship..darn it...
1.jvc
2. sharp
3.panasonic.

I believe my box came out 3 years earlier, in 1978. It's not logic driven or has an electronic eject, but it "sounds" like it does...
I haven't heard an eject mechanism that makes a sound like that on any other box.
that,s a surprise to me MONO
it looks like an early 80,s box
I've seen the CFS-V8 before, but what does Zilba P mean?
brigadier.vytas - 2010-07-19 01:10
Hard to believe, but it means Zoo Intelligence Learning Body Action Playing
Since 1977 Sony released 8 boomboxes with ZILBA'P logo.
ZILBA’P CF-6500
ZILBA’P mk-II CF-6500 II
ZILBA’P WW CFS-70
Deluxe ZILBA’P CF-6600
ZILBA’P RR CFS-D3
ZILBA’P TVsound CFS-V1
ZILBA’P NewAge CF-V8
ZILBA’P MX CF-V3
info is taken from Shizaudio page.
For me it's:
1. JVC (the majority of the very best seem to come from them & they're still at it)
2. Hitachi (3D love conquers all... almost)
3. Philips (always had a soft spot for an underdog & top value for money back in the day)
4. Panasonic (consistent quality across the years & they still do something now that isn't rubbish, right?
yes...)
interesting stuff BRIGADIER
also good choices there I42, although i would have put jvc at the bottom...sorry
1. Miniboomboxes
why am i not surprised nicole
obviously a girls choice
ok your a PHILIPS man like me then
(all others also PHILIPS aka´s)

Which means.......?
i think somebody,s monkeyin around
National
Technics
Sony
Sanyo
all great makes
I'm a JVC man. Being an advocate of function over form, I guess that explains it.
Understated styling but has it where it counts - quality build, components and great sound.
But I appreciate all the brands out there during the golden era. They all brought something to the table, be it style, technology or build. With the exception of Coby, Soundesign and the like. They have absolutley no merit besides being the cheapest to produce........Well, I guess that in itself is a merit. But not one I'd boast to customers. good for them, bad for us. Cheap bastards!
brigadier.vytas - 2010-07-20 12:27
Which means, Reli, that i wrote everything, i found on that site.
Not necessarily in this order, but here are my favorites:
Sharp
JVC
Panasonic
Fisher
Sanyo
Toshiba
Aiwa
good choices RETRO, but strangely enough i have,nt seen any of you american guys with conion or lasonic in your lists, that surprises me

for your last two words, iv,e wanted to use the B WORD a few times here but had to restrain myself
you made that look easy
Sharp without any doubt.
sharp, ye can,t go wrong there, the 9191 is one of my all time faves
love your avvy by the way, it,s just got my little lad laughing
I love the Crowns, especially the 5100 and that CSC-950 like member Tiko has recently scored.
Also the Sharps just have 'the look' for me... love my GF-9000
ye that gf9000 is a looker, the vu,s are the best iv,e seen on any box
im.out.of.hear - 2010-08-01 06:00
I had a friend years ago that had a VZ2000,one night he'd had a bit too much beer,he tried to carry it up the stairs and dropped it,he said it sounded like an earth quake when it bounced down the stairs..and when he went to pick it back up,it did'nt look like a VZ2000 anymore..
