Just a thought, does anyone actually do this anymore? I was thinking how many nods of appreciation you would gain from some people doing this!.... and some looks of disgust!
Depends who you are and what you look like. If you are an emo, mod, or hipster type of person, I suspect people would dismiss you as just trying to be trendy. You would need to have self-confidence and look like you don't care what people think.
i sometimes do it GHETTOBLASTER
iv,e even recently took a box in the pub and in a busy town center, pissed up though obviously
people love it, iv,e had people taking pics and coming up to me asking all kinds of q,s, it,s better than taking a ferrari out believe me

im sure you,ll get a proper box soon, just be a little patient and good things come
Please, people were appalled when I carried my HK-9000 in the 80's
, I don't think I would do it now. I have taken some my boxes to cookouts recently where they're much more appreciated.

In Times Square, I see it every now and then and it just looks ridiculous. I'm not talking old school boxes either, just some random guys carrying eggs on their shoulders or cradled in their arms.
Beach Street
Nice one enskanker

hey ed..them ipod boomboxes dont look as big as i thought, but with the beauty thats holding it,she has 2 things thats making it look even smaller
I sure do! Well, maybe not now 'cause they're on repair but we do it anyway with my man DJDefo's one
. If I wanted something for listening to music at home I'd get myself an home stereo which would've surely come as better sounding. No, more than the boombox itself I like what the boombox represents. And it's not just about fascination for the past, it's about sharing music with other people. When we go to S.Margherita square with our box in little time you can see a group of people growing up.There are tourist from differnt countries as well as native venetians, blacks, whites and asians, boys and girls, kids and the middle-aged guy who always says "back in the day we used to carry around one of these!", friends of mine, someone else's friends, we're all having a good time, everyone it's outgoing and relaxed to each other, We've made new friends and meet girls, it's just a beautiful thing, so much! Sure, sometimes you've got to watch out for the cops who wants to confiscate your radio, the people who lives there that sometimes doesn't take it so easy and the occasional drunk sucker that goes out just to raise up some mess, but to me it doesn't matters, the game it's well worth those annoyances. In a city that has been gradually transformed into a floating museum made up for tourists where the kids can't no longer write with chalks on the pavement and where there isn't any place to meet and do something that's even our way of getten back our space to build up something positive and fresh...

Yeah I presumed for the price the sound wasn't going to be great.. but Im hoping for the best after giving the speakers a good clean on arival!
This thread reminds me of a similar one that asked "Does anyone really use their boxes anymore?"
Whats the point in having them if you dont use them. That is their sole purpose. It's called portable audio for a reason. So hit the streets whenever possible, dont just look at them sitting on your shelf collecting dust!
im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-21 09:06
hi ghett0blaster..i used to have one of them same boxes, but mine was a Goodmans Q904,the sound was pretty dump,i gave it to my mate,he wanted it to take it all night fishing,so i adapted it to run off one of those yuasa alarm battery's,it was great for that, but now analogue tv has gone off, theres not much more use for them now...but..stick with this hobby, all of us started off same or simular to you e.g andy v started with nothing, now he has a collection as good as most of us,dont worry man,as you go along, you'll get bigger and better boxes...just be patient bro...

Well I do actually have a ghetto blaster already at home.. but not even sure it can be called a ghetto blaster - its a phillips it looks virtually identical to this alba -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-...&hash=item483b648e57I imagine the quality of the one I have now to be similar to the matsui, I just like the matsui more because its big and I think it looks good - even with a Tv and a plain black look to it , however I have never seen anybody walking around with a ghetto blaster so I am excited to be walking around with it even if the sound is too feeble to play anything on it!

MrZ..I'm embarrassed to say i am one of those people that dont use them anymore, but i've had some of them for 15 years and just could'nt imagine life without them,i just like to look at them every now and again, handle them, test and clean them..
same with a friend of mine,he has a collection of 00gauge trains.. some of them are expensive, like he has some engines, they are called Wren, they can cost £100ss of pounds on ebay,he would'nt dream of running them on his track,he runs his less quality hornby ones..
ok..as for taking my boxes out..i could'nt take mine out because of the place i live in,its a gangstars paradise,i would be robbed before i get to the end of the street, not only that,i'm 40,yes some 40 year olds do still look trendy and young for there age, unfortunately,i dont,so i would look pretty stupid and out of place carrying one of my boxes around !

I do quite back this up - where I live (england) if you head to a city theres not much chance of someone being able to steal it because of its size and as everyone will be watching.. but can't say I would be certain of this as I havn't tried it!
Its like an antique bowl, you wouldn't use it to put your cereal in..

Well thank you man! Miami it's just my nick, i'm italian, from Venice!

I don't agree with this at all.
If an antique bowl breaks, sure, you can't repair it.
BUT You can still repair a box, it may be difficult with some parts unavailable but it is possible. just look at the tech threads, we're repairing em all the time.
I'm not saying to use your childhood grail, that you've owned over 30 years. (I have one like that, that I repaired and use, incidently.) or use that new in the box mint M90.
We are collectors, right? I think its safe to say that all the boxes we own do not fall under the "antique bowl" argument. so break them out and use em.
Also Ghettoman, I cant beleive you would place that much concern of what others think of you or being trendy.
You mentioned that you used to cary a box when they came out(80's). It seems to me that you already set the trend a while back, yeah? How can that be seen as out of place?

No chance.
Only a few lakes around and the danube river.
But it is also nice there, to blast around
@ghettOblaster: The "railroad" box is a PIONEER.
But in very bad condition. Going to part it soon...
I`d dare anyone, to walk through the streets of barnsley, with a blaster.

'only a few lakes around' to me that looks quite a nice place that picture! I really wish I could move to somewhere more exotic but even with enough money still cant take family and friends :/
Luckily though I do live in a village so could at least take one out where I live
transamguy1977 - 2010-07-21 19:36
I Bring a box most everywhere I go.
Thats what they are intended for.
My Wife enjoys when I bring them out as well.
Glad she is so popular around here
The only time I carry one in public is when I get a new one delivered to work, I walk home with it at lunch time (no batteries, just for show!). I've got some admiring glances and passing motorists look twice. Must say I enjoy it but it feels a bit nervy in a way...... only a very short journey though.
Out here in sunny California we have tons of parks, beaches, and basketball courts and I carry mine to all of them on a regular basis. None of my boxes are shelf queens...and I always get a great response when I carry them around...and I am 40 years old...a young 40..
mine get some use in the garden, when the kids are playing, BBQs etc. & also for kids parties, but as for walking down the street? Not seen for decades now...
Has anyone had the sun melt their box, or make the amp burn up?
I carried my TC-999 around the 'hood a few weeks ago... I snapped this pic the same day:
The reactions varied from shock to amusement... You've kinda gotta have a "I don't give a f*ck" attitude to do such a thing.
an you look like you,ve got the i don,t give a f**k attitude MONO
good stuff i like it, and you could,nt of done it with a sweeter box than that tc999
