hi all, i was wandering (as i always do) which of your boxes has had the most positive comments by friends, family, or people out and about, out of all your collection.
i have owned a few big eye catchers over the years including the crown sz5100, 777, tosh bombeat and so on, but i have to say my tec super jumbo pictured below with my son has had the most thumbs up, seems people really like these big black and chrome chunks
i think the big flashy led,s do the trick too, real eye candy
Depends on day or night. At night, a box with great LED's like my RX-5500 gets attention. But in the daytime, my Crown 850 dominates with its shiny chrome trim, deep-dish black woofers, shoulder straps, and big huge knobs.
on the 5500 led,s, very bright and unmissable
great box that by the way, i miss mine, and ye i must admit the crown 850 is a looker
I have two that get a lot of attention. They are my two main carry around boxes. They were both customized by me with metallic pearl paint and sparkle like crazy in the sun. They are real attention getters. The first is my JVC M70 in Inferno Red Pearl. The second is my JVC M90 in Tungsten Grey Pearl...and trust me, the pics don't do them justice...and the ladies luv em...
you probably know by now that im not a jvc fan
but there,s no denying the beauty of them two boxes, especially that m70, it looks awesome MELLY
great stuff

...thanks Lav Loo...I put my heart and soul into my work...but to me my Sanyo 920 is my most beautiful box...I repainted it in the original silver so it's minty fresh...
well ive got to say that the sanyo 920 is my fave box at the mo which i own, it is a real looker even without the custom look, but you have really done a beautiful box justice there
ABSOLUTELY DAZZLING
now do i put some chome handles on the ends next to the speakers on the front ?
that depends if you wanna keep it original or not BC, i think it would be a nice touch personally
it,s a sweet box that sanyo, looks quality
Never liked the sanyo 920, but, the 824, is another matter.
ooooh LIFAN, you,ve never liked the 920, i think your the first person iv,e heard say this
go on then if you feel like explaining yourself, give us your reasons for not really liking it
heres a pic for good measure
Ha ha. Yeah. I had one. Frank, off the board here, got it going. I sold it soon after. It sounds ok, it`s just the look`s.
@enskanker lol I think it looks great, tell them they should have gone to specsavers.

hmmm im surprised you say this

I agree, I don't think its styling is all that great. It needs a few black pieces.
these d-lites always get the most attention ....

Still, it doesn't appear that yours has tuning dial illumination... or does it?
Regardless, if you ever think about selling that box...
I just noticed his version has a silver tuning dial...nice...
MONO, it does have a tuning dial light, it lights up green
but there is one thing on my 920 that pi**es me off a bit, it,s only 2 band am/fm, but if you look at the tuner scale you will see that it has sw1/sw2 on it, i wander why they faked it like that
and yes if i ever sell i will keep you in mind
MELLY, thanks for the comment too

I brought out my Sharp HK9000z to two barbeques this weekend. People just could not stop talking about the size of it. I never realized how heavy that thing is
ye that is a big heavy looking box that hk9000, nice looker too
is,nt it great when people comment on your boxes, i looooooooove it
peter.griffin - 2010-08-03 13:17
the most common comment, "Put it on your shoulder"
ye that,s a regular one, one i get a lot is, wow is that an original 80,s one
and i say, sure is
love that little sanyo of bendycat's remember that type of mini box well - i had a triumph from currys which was very very similar - am now wondering whether it was a badged sanyo as triumph used clones accross their range!
i had a smallish triumph a while back NICK-D, and i gotta say it was a little quality box
nice twin led,s too.
i always thought triumph was better at making motor bikes though
To me it has to be the J1 it is gorgeous in everyway.
Nice hello kitty box in your new Avatar Ed!
My Lasonic TRC-935 is in my office/music room, and always gets comments...
nice bit of eye candy the 935 DAIWA
would i be right in thinking them equaliser sliders are lit up?? can,t really tell of the pic, if so that is a cool feature iv,e never seen before
Thanks Lav. Yep, the EQ knobs light up, that and the cool "spacial" VU/Sound Level make this box defo "eye candy"... It's mighty big & loud too!
LASONIC TRC 935 WANTED

Nope, i absolutely ADORE it, although it isn't a real ghettoblaster... Hope to find this one someday..
Daiwa,
Re: the Hello Kitty Box. We were thinking at the Boombox Meet what could we do to remind of of Daiwa who was always such a great additon to the forums in the old days.
WEll I thought he is no pussy so how about a nice pink kitty and for the whole afternoon everytime someone walked by that box they said 'Hi Daiwa' in your honor.
NOw when we took that picture I said I want my
buddy Dave, no pussyfoot of a man, to be in the pic with me.
So there you are, Uncle Ed and one cool cat, the Hello Kitty Daiwa Special Display King of the wild frontier mousier DM box.
It's just so kool to be recognized for my good taste in boomers! It's not always the "Holy Grails" that find their way into my heart. Finally, a box that has "ME" written all over it!

Whoa, that make no sense.
Not that I ever use shortwave, but still, that's wrong.
Reminds me of my General Sound GS-1018 that says on the front it's a 2-way system, but when I opened it up, it had fake tweeters.
Good looking out!
That tec super jumbo is quite sweet. I am going to look for one of those. Any opinions?
soundwise--
this Rotel #10 gets the most attention --
its very compact-
but its bass is at least as deep and strong
as a big kaboom or a tele studio
nice box that REDBENJOE, looks real quality thanks for posting
I remember so many comments on the output of this box, but I have yet to see one for sale. Thanks redbenjoe for sharing.
yup retro --

either that --or nobody EVER wants to list them for sale --
i got this from a member here --

oh my god?!! that sounds insane Ira, tho i havent seen one or listen to one in person, but going by the looks of it, looks like you gave too much for it.
my thoughts too DT
but it must really perform
yup --its the ALLTIME sleeper !!!
thats why i posted here in this 'most commented' thread --
when people see these plain//subtle looks-
and the very compact size ---
they cant believe that it has that kaboom//tele studio low end punch

i believe you Ira, knowing you, i know you know what you got, what?
haha -- thanks drip
That's right
the Rotel is a great bbox. Hifi-Sound at it's best, and a bass some home-hifi's would dream of. I exchange one of my Rotels against a M90 and start a hard discussion "M90 - where is the spirit?" because I was sooo disapointed of this holy grail ...
Most commented box of my collection is the GF777, Marantz PMS 7000 and the Fisher PH-490 ... mybe just because this huge size (???) ...
My babys, which I'm realy proud of because they are very rare, like the Marantz PM 53, Kennwood El Poco or the Wega 33 find no feedback by my friends (which are not in my boombox-hobby) ...
Best wishes
TOM
so TOM, what your saying there is the rotel out performs the m90 in your opinion, great stuff i knew there was boxes out there which perform better than the not so nice looking m90
