i believe the f**ked up government here in the uk are pressing ahead with the pathetic digital switch over here in the UK for 2015
to my knowledge this is going to make a lot of boxes redundant if a box has no line in and if the tape deck is dead then the box will be as good as dead because there will be no radio to listen too either, i think i may only go for boxes with line in now, i think line in is going to play a major role in how collectable a box is, when this switch over happens

That sucks, but you can probably use an FM modulator for auxiliary connections.

There is no advantage for digital radio like there is for digital TV.
I dont see the point of eliminating the FM band.
As digital radio can be just an addition to what there is now.

That's not a problem at all. As long as the digital crap has a line out , there's a way to connect it to a FM modulator.FM will never die.
I use my boxes everyday while a FM modulator is "feeding" them . Regular radio stations on FM up here are crap. So i listen to internet radio on FM . Works perfect and sound is beautiful

Furthermore , if FM is abandoned up here , the more frequencies i can use LOL

Well, they are upgrading emley moor transmitter now. It`s stuffing all the tv up. Hope this digital lark is worth it .

emley moor tower eh, it,s huge that thing i think it,s the tallest free standing building in the UK,about 750 feet tall i think.
anyway lets say here in lancs tv is already digital and it,s crap it,s forever breaking up and you regularly get like little blocks allover the screen, what are the DUMMIES doing bring good old analogue back

it's looking more like good old fm radio could be here to stay as more & more people lobby the useless government to keep the 88 - 108mhz band broadcasting in analog form - i read a lot about this topic on the net & the majority refuse to dump good old fm radio full stop - also with the laughably slow takeup of DAB (with inferior sound imo) isn't helping promote a digital only for the uk's radio industry!
although i rarely listen to any uk radio these days (radio 2 sometimes) i owe an awful lot to fm stereo radio in the past always introducing me to new music & entertainment - music is my first love in life & always will be followed by 1980's japanese technology which i'll always be crazy about!

i wouldn't worry too much at the moment lav.....fm isn't going anywhere for the time being anyway

There is AM FM and now digital radio DAB
over here but there was no scraping of the FM band.

Another thing is if you have cable TV
odds are that you cable company is sending
FM stations on your cable.
Connect the cable to your stereo or boombox.
I use to do that, was better than the wire on the wall thing.

there will still be radio stations who you will lose is the bbc channels but apart from that it will make no real differnts how i know this as i wrote to my MP and that was roughly the answer! he reckons it will not affect am mw lw but he is a PM so he's proberly lying LOL

Everything is perfectly the same as long as the transmitter/modulator is transmitting a FM Stereo signal.

My Sirius car/home radio has a built in FM modulator that works perfectly with my home stereo and boxes.

Its abit sad that the FM is getting switched off,but it wont really effect me because i never really listen to radio,i hate the modern radio modulation anyway,its way too loud,makes all my ghettos sound awfull..i do sometimes try the radio though but when i first get a box,just to try it out..

im only really listening now to MW - theres a station called 'absolute radio' which was virgin radio.

they play good stuff on there, 1210mw check it out. on DAB aswell

tbh without that station i wouldnt have much use for radio on my boxes and therefore wouldnt have a quaint JVC on the window sill looking totally awesome

ye absolute radio is cool ANDY, they play tons of retro 80,s stuff...love it but mw does,nt have the clarity of fm as you know and that puts me off a bit, having said this i can pick absolute up clear as a bell on most my boxes

i live at the bottom of like a valley so i cant get FM all that well, cant even get a tv signal so i dont have a tv either.

hey chaps,does that mw station,would it sound out in stereo on a dab ? it would be cool to get a dab radio,plug it into a box and record some tunes to tape..

ye i see where your coming from there G,MAN the problem i would have there is i would never buy a DAB radio i would rather stick pins in my eyes than have any of the modern trash in my gaff
believe it or not i still record off FM radio onto tape, i do it on my philips d8614 onto chrome tapes and the recordings are like cd quality...oh ye i have loads of mix tapes

I used to listen to Absolute radio on AM .
It was 1215 KHz instead of 1210 KHz
I believe there's a stream of it too for the listeners over the pond

Yep Absolute which started life as Virgin... It's deffo 1215 khz, 1210 is not a valid channel in the UK (9khz steps).
The 1215 allocation is what was the old MW BBC Radio 3 network. We get it on 1215 from Brookmans Park TX near London (125 kw) and also theres a relay at Cambridge which I can pick up on 1197 (200 watts). Absolute is on FM in London only I think.

I bought a grundig DAB. few years ago. Didn`t last long. Not the grundig of old. Some good classic rock stations though.
