hi guys...sorry for the off topic discussion but i just gotta share this one with you.....went to a car boot sunday and saw this old box on the floor with 2 spindles.....after a closer look it turned out to be an akai gx625 reel to reel semi pro tape machine......not expecting it to work whatsover i give the bloke £5 for it and took it home.......gave her a clean up..put a couple of 7 inch reels i had in the loft onto it and cranked it up..........a line out to my newly aquired sanyo 920 off lav and off we went.....i couldnt believe it....it fully works....weh hey.....£5 wont buy you a pack of fags but what a piece of kit for a fiver.........iv not taken pics yet so here`s a library pic
hey cool stuff DAVE, looks top quality that, and for a fiver wow what a snatch
by the way what does the sanyo sound like through line in?? i never got round to trying it
well iv only tried this reel tape on it and it sounded prety good....ill let you know further details when i get round to pluggin the ipod into it
nice, you could fetch a good profit putting that on ebay....
Reel to reel ruled the hifi World up until the late 1960s when 8-track and cassette took over.
Some of those R to R decks are amazing...the big high end models cost $1000 45 years ago ! you could buy a good used car for that kind of money.
You can't get better sound from home audio than open reel. If you have a good set-up and decent tapes nothing else comes close.
