Lasonic trc931 shock!!

lav.loo - 2010-08-22 05:59

before i start here, no i have,nt had an electric shock of the lasonic as the thread title may suggest Big Grin
anyway i just want to mention how shocked i am at the boom of my newly aqquired 931.
i traded it with DAVEBUSH yesterday for my sanyo mx920, at first i was hesitant in doing the trade because even though it,s a legend of a box, i thought i may be getting a real lightweight empty poor sounding box and even changed my mind about going ahead with the trade.
anyway after hearing some good things about the 931 in some other threads, i decided to go ahead with the swap Nod Yes
when DAVE turned up with it and handed it to me, i was shocked at the weight of it compared to the other big black boxes iv,e owned, especially the CROWNsz5100.
ok i thought maybe this one will boom quiet a bit as it was quiet a heavy box, was i wrong No No far from it, this box can really pump out bass and handles the vol well with hardly any distortion.
this may well be the best box iv,e ever owned, it,s big, flashy, sounds great, and has legend status, can anybody out there who owns one confirm there is more in the back of the 931 than a crown5100??
i have seen in the back of a crown and it was a big dark void with enough room in the back to fit a small universe in Big Grin
i don,t go into boxes as a rule but i can tell by the weight of the 931 that it has more than a circuit board in there...unless DAVES put a few house bricks in for good measure Laugh Out Loud
any comments would be great here guys, thanks Wink

I currently own 3 1st edition Lasonic TRC-931's...

The old TRC-931's aren't lightweight boxes - they're midweight boxes, in my opinion. To me, the M90 is a heavy box.

As for the Crown comparisons, the build quality may be on the same level, but I always hear they're a joke compared to the TRC-931 when it comes to sound.

The Lasonic TRC-931 has the best bass of any box I've ever heard... Better than a J-1 Super Jumbo, better than an M90, waaaaaaaaaaaay better than a GF-777. PERIOD.

Congratulations! Cool

Thanks! Smile The upper 2 are in bad shape physically and mechanically... I hope to get the lower deck on the bottom 931 fixed with belts so I can get rid of those other 2. I'm not into having multiples of the same box but that's what happens when you try to find a box in better condition than the last box you bought.

Not a problem, LAV LOO... Enjoy that box! Cool

lav.loo - 2010-08-22 10:05

hope you get yours sorted which im sure you will Nod Yes thanks again MONO Wink

Does this box have more bass than the panasonic dt680?

redbenjoe - 2010-08-22 16:50

yes

im.out.of.hear - 2010-08-22 17:36

I love The lasonic, the one i had gave good bass, but after turning it up to a certain volume, the cabinet would start to rattle..
but...they are a damm sight nicer quality than the crown sz5100,pick a crown up and the plastic creaks to hell,it does'nt feel no way near as solid and well built as the lasonic..you got a good box there lav, just try not to use the function selector switch too much because there notorious for breaking, and they aint easy to fix..
oh yess,the DT680 is a top Quality box..well made,awsom sound,solid feel..

thanks redbrnjoe. I'm always on the lookout for bassboxes. I'm so impressed with how cleanly my dt680 puts out the lowest of the lows so easily. If this lasonic surpasses even that then I will be in the lookout for one.

redbenjoe - 2010-08-22 19:01

panabox --if you are not too picky about cosmetics-
or OEM antennas , battery covers, etc --
you can occasionally buy a great sounding 931
for only 50 bucks Smile
and i predict you will enjoy the pounding bass.

monolithic - 2010-08-22 20:33

I always hear nothing but praise about the sound of those Panasonic boxes, but they don't visually appeal to me so I highly doubt I'll ever get one to compare to other boxes in my collection.

yes PANABOX it does have more bass than my philips, it has an equal bass to the panny ct900 but can go louder with the bass high up and handle it better than the panny, it can really thump Nod Yes Wink

yes G,MAN i have heard about the selectors but im not going to use it often atall so hopefully they will be ok, and if they do break then it will be used as a showpiece only, thanks for the tip anyway mate Wink

davebush - 2010-08-23 11:15

i made 2 new selector cogs for lavs new 931.......to be honest it was a real challenge for me. i made a mold from the original cog, cast 2 new ones and fitted them , then soldered the selecter switch back to the main board....put it all back together and hey presto..........you can imagine the satisfaction i had when it worked as good as new........

lav.loo - 2010-08-23 11:50

ye DAVE you done a good job mate, like you said the selectors should last for the forseeable future so im happy, and if they do jack up, il,e keep it as a shelf box cos i love the look and it is in great condition.
i suppose anything can go on even the best of these boxes as their not getting any younger Wink
