Hello, I was just wondering what people's thoughts are regarding the new Sony boomboxes that are out today. I'm really just looking for one with decent cd to cassette recording, because the old Panasonic I had from the nineties finally took a dive. And from what I've seen out there, Sony is the only one that is still making them with cd players and cassette decks. I'm trying to grab something new so I don't have to worry about the recordings ending up subpar. Thanks for any thoughts.

If you are looking for a new Sony boombox with decent recording capabilities, a cd, cassette, and overall good sound I would recommend the Sony CFD G505. It is not very pretty but it has very solid bass and very good overall sound and they are priced from $90 - $115.

"Not very pretty" is one way to put it. I'm sure it performs as good or better then many other offerings.

I don't know why companies follow each other with this design concept...'The pod look'.

I'm hoping they will offer more bbx's with a more serious traditional design (the look of 1976-83).....if they were well made, they would sell. I forgot the name, but someone has a rerto look unit and it has gotten attention.

Sony pioneered the integated bbx in the early 70's - Some say with boring designs, but they were all quality...anyone who has handled a CF-580 knows what I mean.

I agree, but there is not much to choose from in the Sony line with a cassette and cd that can still be purchased new. Although ugly it does sound very good.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll have to sacrifice looks if I want something new I guess.

With all the Panny RX-CT and DT models on eBay I would get one of those again over some unit made in a chop suey factory.
