Hi its been ages since I last posted so heres my latest find. Its the Panasonic RX-DT75 aka Cobra.
Yeah I know its an egg but lets not forget these things were first manufactured 18 years ago so they've got a bit of age to them. The looks are not great but that all changes when the top panel is lifted
This thing is packed with goodies ( aux line in ,sleep timer ,dolby, stereo/mono ,preset equaliser ,powered cassette doors ,forward and reverse tape play ,cd player , remote)
Then theres a sub menu with all the tape and cd edit menus
The sound is loud but slightly distorted at high volume (the foam surround base drivers tend to decay)
Where as they look fine on mine I will be changing them out in the next few weeks as a precaution
So all in all the 90s Panasonic flagship can still hold its own against newer and larger boxes and if you get the chance to own one just forget its an egg and enjoy it

come on Ghettoman--------thats probably your back yard, righ?
MANSION, these are one of my favorite boxes, the one you got looks in great cosmetics .
Plenty of respect around here for the CobraTop Panasonics. Whilst many around were churning out cheaply made rubbish, these were quality through & through.
If you haven't heard one, you may not understand. If you have heard one, their ability to turn out clear, rich sound at sustained high volume should be all the proof you need. That along with the build quality & feature-count
But look at it!
Im with you Iso/driptip their quality and features speak for them selves. But will they ever be collectible ?? I think they will so buy them and stick them in the loft for 5 or 10 years and maybe ,just maybe they might be respected for what they are a top of the range 90s machine.

I have one too Mansion. I love it. The bass out of those tiny speakers is amazing. And the remote is the best part. I have fun showing my friends the eject/close of the cassettes with the remote
Hi Peter Im loving the remote too its a great little gadget and seems to do everything unlike some remotes which are very limited.
Anyone got any idea how much these boxes were to buy new ??

another feature that i love about the cobras is, you can program to when ever you pass your hand over the sensor it will open the top, AMAZING. incase you dont have the remote handy.
as elegant// eloquent enskanker has often proclaimed ::
"sonic marvels "

yeah that's a cool feature. And you can even change the angle ilt of the cobra top. Hey Mansion, I got mine from the original owner. and they were around 500bucks Canadian.
500 Bucks new "holy cow" that was kings ransom back in the early 90s
Where does the CD go in?
peter.griffin - 2010-11-09 11:57
underneath the Panasonic logo. right at the bottom.
ready to rock and roll
I spend most of last year talking myself out of wanting on e of the cobratops. This has just undone all that work
The prices on these Panys have been on there way up for a year or two now Iso so Id recommend getting in quick while there still cheap. Its a bit like the 3Ds a few years back when everyone was rubbishing them but now they hold their own and can fetch good money
Anyone any idea how many cobra top models there are ??
There's quite a few models, but for me there's only one, the RX-DT707. Didn't really likes these but had heard good things about the sound.
Found my 707 at carboot for a few quid, so thought may as well buy it. If you can live with the looks and they do grow on you, the sound this puts out is rather good not the loudest box I have but that bass wins, and you can turn the volume to the max and it doesn't complain.
Here it is:
problem solved--
loved the sounds of my godawful ugly 707 egg
so ... made this decoy
the EGG CRATE !!
really
Nice egg box
once i got the 2 speaker openings adjusted to the optimal size --the great surround sound mode
was even better !!
That's more like it, bung a paper bag over it's head.

grems have dissapeared so i will do it manually, ha ha ha lol, i agree with AO, they are ugly to look at, but on another note sound is great, and maybe worth a few quid in the future, still i would'nt have one given, grin/smile

nice one Ira,
i just love the unique looks of them, the dt75 and the dt707, i like boxes as original as they come.
Yeah I have both of these and the 75 is nice but the 707 is far more powerful and deeper.
Almost as deep as Ira.
being this deep
is most often lonely

Just picked up one of these panasonic eggs.
Has to be one of the best egg box around.
Was looking at one in some store back in the 90's.
Nice redbenjoe!!!
Hey Ira,
Now that's what I'd call thinking
inside the box, LOL!
Thanks rbj, it has been a while...
Hiya JC, really should visit Ira more often over at his other hang-out.
We really pick on him there, (mostly me, but he loves it)

Welcome back JC. If it wasn't for you and your great information about shockwave walkman I'd never have got into this and would still have some money left.
Thank you gang...it's good to be back, I've missed y'all!
zx280: sorry 'bout that!
