Hey guys. Been a long time! Im thinking of purchasing a toshiba wx1 for myself and was just wondering if they are a good boombox or not?

Overall I think they're a nice box if you can find one in really top condition. If it has been messed with at all avoid it since its possible that the owner didn't know what they were doing. It's not a LOUD loud box but it does bang reasonably. With everything in good order you won't be dissapointed.
The sound on the one I had with speakers changed out was superb. I changed them because the previous owner tried to fix totally shot speakers.

That`s it dave. Look`s like it could sound impressive. Doesn`t.

had one, very bulky and very unconfortable to carry, sound not that great.

i had one too...has nice VUs and tape speed....my speakers had foam rot in them so i couldnt really turn it up allot...but i'm not a big fan of them three piece boxes...

yeah i'm with the others mate,i've never been keen on the WX-1,i love 3 piece boxes,but that one just is'nt the same,i just cant get used to the style,like the way the speakers clip off from underneath,and the the way the unit is like a long thing,i like the classic shape 3 piece e.g centre section and speakers on the side..The tosh looks abit odd and ugly..just not my style at all man...

They sound ok but nothing special, and there far to big and heavy for what they are.

Very heavy and lots of features, but the output is not all that.

Can someone explain, how do those passive radiators work? Are they reflecting the sound from inside somehow?

The radiator produces a bass-like "resonance" using the air pushed by the main driver. Seems to perform the same function as a bass reflex port, except that the foam cover allows the air to bounce around inside a bit more, to magnify the effect.

Haha good to be back mate! Recognise a few of the old skool guys on here. I should be on here alot now im collecting again. Seems alot harder to collect now though!

I picked one up a month ago and DAMN!!!!, I couldn't believe how good mine sounded. Ive heard so many people say their not impressed with them but I must have got one of the good ones!

It has good sound quality, not super loud, but definetely nothing to snub your nose at.......people here must be crazy or just had the same crap one sold to them.

The drivers dry rot out, they can be replaced with some minor modifications to the plastic mounts (square driver frame vs. round) and after that, the thing is most excellent.

It is my 3rd favorite box. M90 > C100F > WX-1 > all the rest.

its got a tremendous sound

I agree with Ira and Kit as they do sound tremendous, I have one and mines pumps good quality bass not cheap bass that is flat, I mean solid bass and with the help of the radiators forget about it. I love mines, And is very very heavy.

i've been offered a few wx1s over the years but i always said no,i think they look really nice but i just cant get to liking the idea of the unit on top and speakers fixed underneath,it looks really odd,i prefure unit in the middle,speakers on the side,if it would have been a one piece box like the 777,i would like it alot,and i would have probebly bought one by now,but the weird layout just does'nt win me over at all..

I totally agree Kittmaster, I have those 3 boxes and would put them in that exact order.
