i Need help guys, what do i do ? i bought the lasonic 975 off a seller..it arrived damaged..mains transformer smashed out of its base, but it cant hit the circuit boards, they are too far away,i got it powered up on 12v,Power button does'nt work,i have to press play on cassette to get it working,Tape A plays, can here music but with a severe loud russle noise,Tape B,no music at all with a loud rustle noise, volume is static, crackly, one channel cuts out,the graphic does'nt work, sliders dont do anything at all when i adjust them, the ariels are not origonal, they are too long, the handle wont go down because the ariels are in the way..i can understand the smashed transformer must have been done in post, but i'm convinced that all the rest of the faults were already like that before it was sent, all the guy is saying is send it back to usa, that will cost me a fortune,i'de say approx £80-£100..pay all that extra money out to send it back, just to get a refund, and it was'nt my fault, then i will be double out of pocket, what do i do now ??
My heart goes out to you Bro,
I've had similar occassions. If the cost to fix it is bigger than shipping it back than you should. If not, play the empathy card. I bought Sharp GF777 from China. It was advertised as mint and I found about 15 small problems. I emailed the guy in Hong Kong and he was cool and sent me a $200 refund to cover the costs of the repair. In the end be cool, confident and make the buyer feel sorry for you. If not, start the claim process, that's what it's there for
Paul
sounds like you've had too many bad experiences with ebay G,MAN, my answer is simple, don't buy off ebay anymore
what does ebay say ? have you written to them and asked ? ask about postage as well

there just are no boomboxes for sale that are worth all that $$$ risk and disappointments-
takes 100% of the purpose and the fun out of collecting

just a quick update, after ebay let me down yet again, and finding that i probebly wont have any joy with buyers protection,i decided to tackle the repair, and after many hours and many days of head scratching, some apoxy & re-screwing the transformer, lots of cleaning to the electronics with switch cleaner, new belts on the decks, the lasonic is finally all fixed now, working perfect..all she needs now is the propper ariels..but she has turned out lovely..i have finally been able to apreciate the fine looks and nice sound,i had the lasonic and jumbo J1 going the other day,to compare the sound, the lasonic is beautiful to look at,for its looks alone, one of the nicest boxes ever made, and the sound is very nice, bass is very nice, but the jumbo is way louder, bigger bass, lots more treble, graphic is more responsive, the decks are more or less the same, simular sound, simular mechanics..but regardless of the goods and bads,i love them both alot..
TO paulchris2..
i sujested to the seller that i would accept a parcial refund,but when i said that,he stopped replying..typical !!
Bendy..yes i spoke to ebay, they told me the only option is to return it for refund, and i would have to pay for return shipping out of my own pocket..
Ohh well, its ok now,i'm over it..and it has'nt turned out that bad in the end,,lucky i can fix boxes myself coz it was a right state,if i would have took it for repair, the guy in the shop would have laughed at it..
what a great ending to a dismal story
im very happy you got it sorted yourself G'MAN, the 975 really is a sweet box, absolute eye candy, well done on the repairs too, you must be over the moon, congrats and
