TELEFUNKEN HI-FI STUDIO 1M versus JVC RC M90?

bogdan - 2011-01-31 11:23

I am wondering if anybody of our members had ever have the oportunity to compare these 2.I just bought the HIFI STUDIO M1 and I'm out of words.
I was thinking that maybe the JVC RC M90 is the only competitor for it.

Never had a chance to hear M1, or M90, but rumours say, Funken is a unbeatable champ.

redbenjoe - 2011-01-31 13:05

imho-
the tele a bit more solid // heavy // deeper bass...
the m90 has a much more expansive output
and a more detailed // beautiful high end.

get both

skippy1969 - 2011-01-31 13:19

I agree 100 % with the Red one....... I Agree Nod Yes

I've got two telefunken's, and the sound is absolutely great. Its proper HiFi, really! Enough Watts to wake up the neighbours!
Unfortunalty i dont own a JVC RC M90, so i cant help you on that matter.

radio.raheem - 2011-01-31 15:22

There both great units just remember on batts the m90 will win hands down..and at the end of the day the funken is only a 3 peice imho..but as redbenjo says get both..

mellymelsr - 2011-02-01 00:44

I have heard both but this is an unfair fight. The Telefunken is not really a portable as it sounds horrible on batteries and it's 3 piece design gives it a distinct advantage. Comparing the M1 to a Sony FH7 MKIII is a much better matchup. The Sony destroys the Telefunken...on power and sound. The soundstage on the MKIII is unlike any portable I have ever heard.

The Telefunken is best at low volumes, where the bass fills the room and amazes you. Great for movie soundtracks and rock music. But I don't think it's very good for heavy rap, because the woofers are too loose and start flapping. I bet the M90 is easily louder.

I tested them both on the mains Reli in actuality there both about the same volume...I diddnt use meeters like some..just good old fasioned ears..I agree the funken sounds best at low volumes because after about a quater volume (if memory is correct) the funken started distorting..or flapping as you put it..it may have more bass than a standard m90..not sure though as mine went long ago..but owning a big one peice with 8"" woofers that has GOOD sound is just so much MORE satisfuying than any 3 peice and i used to bat for 3 peice all the way..BUT not any more..dont get me wrong 3 peice are GREAT but you cant beat a good one peice..thats just my own view though..

studio m1 rocks, on low and loud, speakers dont flap at all. it's seriously loud for a box that takes batteries, might be heavy but the depth isnt big so can carry no problem

Not heard JVC but the wattage output isnt that high so i dont see how it could be as loud

I have sony FH7 mk1 & mk2 and I dont think there are that good, bass is hard and speakers aint that good, apm speakers tend to flap, they are too deep to carry and you need another psu so it can take batteries, then it's reduced power. I dont think you can class them as ghetto blaster, it's a home hi-fi with a handle.

I shall be selling mine soon for this fact but will want top money as they are both boxed, one with boxed turntable too

SmileI like them both, The M90 sounds perfect in every way, Deep bass crisp highs and loud even with batteries. The HiFi is a solid 3 peacer with bass to spare at ac power, Even at low volume it sounds amazing with a stereo system sound comparism, I just which it was as loud with batteries. The HiFi is one of the best sounding boomboxes for the house, For the out doors the M90 will battle any boomer out there and crush the competion. Nod Yes

I guess you leave your bass knob rather low, or use an iPod with the volume on the iPod set only halfway? Because if you crank it up more than that, the woofers do indeed flap (distort). Matter of fact, I doubt there is any box in the world that doesn't distort.

mellymelsr - 2011-02-02 23:05

The only box I have heard with no discernible distortion to my ears are the Sony FH7 MKIII or my Sony FH 207....even at max volume. The FH7 MKIII bests the M1 in soundstage and volume, at least to my ears.

But with what kind of input source, and what bass knob setting?

The input source used was an Ipod touch, and the Sony can go max volume with max bass on most tracks (the Sony has a 5 band eq which is also an advantage)...those APM speakers are awesome...and to my ears the detail and soundstage are better on the Sony (but it must be the 3 way MKIII) simply a beautiful sounding unit with killer power.

How far is the volume on the ipod cranked though? I have found that with most boomboxes, even if my ipod is cranked all the way up, it's still never as loud as the radio tuner.

The radio tuner may be a louder source, but when I do a boombox comparison I base it on the source I use most for music listening...my MP3...I don't listen to FM very often due to commercials or lack of a clean enough signal. I have tried it on internet radio (Pandora) which has a very stong input level from my computer and it will crank near full volume although I would not recommend doing that indoors because this radio is ear shattering loud.

Thank you guys for all of your comments.
I personaly was not for a 3 piece generaly speaking ,I'm allways for the one piece boombox. But this time it was the exception,I bought this TELEFUNKEN, which is in a perfect shape, and I can strongly afirm that it is a realy hi-fi.M90 is also on my list but I did never hear one.
In my opinion we can consider the TELEFUNKEN beeing a portable since it has a battery compartiment and take batteries and since it also has a handle. And it is realy sleam with the 16cm(6,5 inches) deep.
The sound and the all over quality in every detail and function is very, very good.Speaking about distortion its true that at high volume the woofers reaches to a certaine grade of saturation because,in my opinion, they are to small and of course may be some other resons too.But the bass it is also very deep and the highs are very well defined.
I agree that the HI-FI STUDIO 1M is much more indicated for the use in places(open or not) where an acces to a main is posible because of the big difference between the RMS power it has on AC(60 watts) and that when using DC(6 watts).
I tested it with my home boxes 110 watts sinus 8 ohm Technics CS95 and works great with them, the sound became even more powerfull. In the first stage I was expected to fade, but not, this thing has brut power.
I choose the comparison to the m90 because I know that it is one of the best, even its one piece.I know that there are many 3 pieces from brands like MARANTZ,PIONEER,SANSUI,TECHNICS,SONY and even JVC which could be compared to the HI-FI STUDIO 1.The comparison to SONY FH 7 its also an interesting opinion and if you can make other challenges to the Funken please do it.
Anyway I reccomend the HI-FI STUDIO 1 as a must have.
