He use to post often with his finds but im hard pressed to find any posts!?!?!?! Anyone know?
last visit 05/27 2008
I guess he`s busy!
Hi, guys. Sorry about the relative absence lately. Two reasons:
(1) I've been busier than I was before, with other aspects of life. Regrettably, things like keeping food on the table sometimes steal time away from boomboxes.
(2) I've cut way back on purchases (even though it has meant painfully walking away from some nice finds, sob, sob!), in part because I'm saving as much as I can in the hopes of getting a couple pieces of much more expensive audio stuff for sale locally, and partly because I live in a modest downtown city apartment, where I am really out of space to cram in any more boxes (if I don't want to become one of those "looney hoarder" types), so until I start selling off some, I'm trying not to buy any more.
I have tried to pop in every several days to read the new posts, but since I haven't had much new to report on here, haven't been posting.
Thanks for the thought, though; it's nice when you learn that someone thought of you! Big Grin
I'm planning to set up some kind of blog/website and start posting pics of boxes there (as well as here, of course). If I can start selling some of them to regain some room, I'll eventually also start buying some more, and posting those stories... but I NEED to start dealing and stop just collecting/hoarding, and free up some of the space now taken up by stacks of boomboxes, for that to happen.
hi arkay --there may be some members here that can help you out of some boxes
are you ready for PM lists of our needs ?
or do you have a list of boxes that you want to sell to us ?

I agree with RBJ, there are members here who would pay you well for some of your boxes or even give you a hunting list. Selling a few of those great boxes you find should help put some good food on the table.

That that is the truth but you forgot to add stereo equiment also!!!
Yeah life gets in the way sometimes!
Count me in on helping you out with your space needs...
Ive read most of your posts and have a few in mind already!
Me too. This sounds like a great opportunity.
Ah, the vultures are circling already!...tsk,tsk!
Just joking, of course. I'll be delighted if I can move some of these out into the hands of appreciative boombox fans like you guys. If I have to part with them, I'd like to see them go into "good hands".
Some I will sell after restoration, but I'll also sell a bunch "as is" which may need some minor cleaning or repairs. Probably some real bargains among those. I'm just getting too many other life priorities in the way these days, and have too many boxes for my available space.
I'm thinking of setting up a cheap/free blog-type site where I can post pics and descriptions. {Any site recommendations welcomed.]
It will be a gradual process, as it is a hassle for me to get at some of the boxes stacked up in the "mausoleum". I'll start with one or two of the more easily accessible ones, then go further. I may put off selling most of them until closer to Christmas, but will start with some before then (during the summer).
Most of them I'll probably put up on the auction site, just to give the most people a shot at 'em (not all fans and collectors are on S2G), but I may put a few exclusively here, or offer 'em here first, and maybe even donate the proceeds (after shipping costs) from one or two to this site, since this is the best bunch of B-box fans there is.
Not really decided yet how I'll proceed in detail, but I'll just start somewhere one day soon and see where and how it goes. I'm a bit leery about all the scams and "bad buyers" and such; if I do sell, I want it all to go smoothly. Any tips/suggestions for how to best sell online and not get shafted would be welcomed. The last time I sold anything on eBay was years ago, and it is a different world out there now.
well arkay --YOU ASKED !!!
here is one humble opinion :
1. if you dont feel like dealing with an endless pile of a-holes -- forget ebay.
2. post them -- one box per week -HERE --and see how it goes.
( and dont keep your stall mode going -- like start NOW)
3. ignore all these other clowns
--and send me a PM list.
4. or in case you are seriously interested in providing the VERY BEST and fairest deals for yourself and for this club --
then you now have the perfect set-up to initiate the proposed s2g auction ::
send your list and prices to PAN FAN -and he could arrange the procedure --- OK OK OK ?
I've used blogger.com quite a lot, just follow the steps and away you go:
https://www.blogger.com/startNice clean design and easy to add pictures to.
A big
THANKYOU
Arkay for saving the boxes you have stockpiled! It will be nice for these to end up in the hands of collectors instead of being parted out or carelessly abused by non-collectors.You do this hobby a great service!
hi lee
you can find a pic of your back on our side
sīc
Just to clarify for those who weren't there: if I were to admit to being in that pic, I would be the one on the left, in the blue shirt. My backside is just as pale as the other guy's, but I don't show it off, even when bending over.
Seriously, RADIOHIER, I remember that day well. It was fun! When are you coming here again? And why don't you send me enough money to just ship all the boomboxes to you on a couple of palettes? You need more boomboxes... you don't have enough!
[Sorry, couldn't resist... for any readers here who don't already know, RADIOHIER is an amazing font of knowledge about boomboxes, and a very nice guy, with HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of boxes, including all the best models. And yes, I happen to be the guy with the balding spot in the blue shirt.]
We finally meet Arkay that is his back side.
Good luck on selling your boomboxes hopefully I'll be able to buy one from you if my credit card bills are paid by then.

Thank you for your kind words (Maybe you haven't met so many Americans?!). Extremely sorry to hear that your lady friend is ill. She was nice. I hope she recovers fully and soon.
My sister works for an airline, and because of recently-announced mergers, there is a chance she may be able to get me some discount flights in the not-too-distant future that I can use from Hong Kong. Not sure yet, and it may not happen until next year, but if she can, then I may seriously think about visiting Germany again, when my work schedule permits. If I do, for sure I will drop by for a visit. I'd love to see those "walls of boomboxes" you have there!

Yes, I got to see Henry's growing collection of boomboxes yesterday. He has some REALLY NICE ones, including a few I'd never seen or heard before, and we had a good time listening, comparing and discussing boxes and stuff. Thanks, Henry!
This is a great thread....
Arkay, whenever, however you decided to move forward I will certainly support your cause.
I agree with Jovie, these need/should be in the hands of us collectors. Afterall, you went through the joy/trouble of searching these out, taking them home, storing them.
Basically 'saving' them from going to far away places where they wouldnt be seen again by those who appreciated the culture boomboxes helped create.
Youve really done us all a service on some level in saving history. Not only for music lovers, but those in the Hip Hop world as well, its a wider audience than just vintage electronic collectors.
Having said that, an online auction would reach far and wide. However I like RedBenJoe's idea of offering up one a week here to us, letting it go to the highest offer.
I know you know this already, but the feedback threads here are a good source of information. I have often searched for a particular auction buyer/seller to see how any given BBX transaction went.
Whatever you do, good luck!
