Magnavox D8300 Aux Inputs

alow1 - 2008-05-03 15:12

I now own a pair of Magnavox D 8300's. A black one and a yellow one.

On the back of both of them there is a place for RCA inputs. It says Aux In, and my black one has the original sticker on the front of it on the grille that says CD line in.

Ok well after grabbing a line in adapter and plugging my ipod into one, I don't see a Aux switch so I can listen to it.

Was the Aux inputs made for just tape dubbing? Or am I just missing something somewhere that will allow me to listen to my ipod on it?

gee thats a curious statement lets see here ... yanking down my yellow 8300 dual-cassette 5 speaker 5-band eq of the shelf here... yep aux in... ok got a known good source of music .... plugged in a phoenix gold 3.5mm to phono jack's adapter to it powered up the source music .... its all plugged in now... gee where's the switch for the aux ??? ,,,, ok tried without a cassette and hit play with source on ... nothing .... ok lets turn this Around and make this aux a outlet... and plug in some known good powered speakers .... nothing no sound,,, gee that is interesting I tried the radio on the 8300 it works ,,, I played a cassette on the 8300 & ((( got MY Great sounds ))) ,,,, but no output to through the aux ... to the powered speakers no sound ... hmmm

Well I guess you would have to take this apart and follow this back inside and see just where the wires go to ,,, LOL ,,, if there ARE any wires ??? hey wanna bet that this was a cheapo woy of upgrading this box and the manufactuer ... simply didn't connect anything to those aux in phone plugs there in the back and just left them there ... not connected to anything ... My sk-1 and aiwa tpr have aux in with no switch but override the radio section when pluged in..
unpluged aux source radio plays
when pluged in aux source plays

alow1 --james was almost there --

but there is one more step --and its hard to belive ::
but i sort of remember that you have to also hit the record button !!??
---THEN - the aux comes alive-

stupid design -- but try it

I've had a couple of portables in the past that had this set up too. Became a nightmare when the 'soft touch' began to wear out on the rec+pause buttons, but it was the only way I could listen to vinyl at the time.

That design probably wore out a lot of button mechanisms long before the heads or belts crapped out.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't tried it again yet but i will. It just seemed odd, I figured there had to have been some kind of trick to it.
