i've been looking for a box with a little BOOOOOOOM in it while i am out on my alternate project (see my "what does $100 look like" thread over in the collections forum) and i realized i need a box with some bass. can anyone suggest a good budget box (<$100) with bass to keep an eye out for? ebay listings always say the hitachi 3d boxes and some other 4 speaker set ups have deep bass, but i trust you guys about 100 times more than the sellers. also, styling isn't such a huge issue, so eggs and newer boxes are fine by me, just looking for suggestions.
EDIT: i just remembered an old college roommate of mine had a JVC Kaboom, which if i recall is supposed to be a bass heavy box, but he never ever played anything bass heavy on it, so it didn't make an impression on me.

The Hitachi 3D series have amazing bass. Avoid the smaller TRK-3D2 and TRK-3D30 models. Go for TRK-3D7, TRK-3D8. There are tons more great Hitachi 3D models out there. Private message "isolator42" if you require more information about this series. The large JVC Kaboom models (RV-B90, RV-NB10 etc) are apparently the bassiest portable stereos ever made, not the loudest, but they certainly have the most bass. I also have one and it's highly impressive. Hope this helps.
I also have a Kaboom it is without a doubt Bass king but lacks on Treble big time. The more well rounded Boombox in my opinion is the Panasonic DT-680 it has the best of both worlds and the best part they sell very cheap on ebay!
For $100.00 I would go with the Sony CFS- 9000 with the square little speakers provides great bass for $100.00
I believe I had a Sony CFS-9000 back in the early-1990s, and if I remember correctly, it had excellent tone including nice bass.
I have three of these and I desire more of these preferably the one's that have working Cassette one's JVC RC 550 's

almost exactly whay I was giong to say
The 3Ds do thump out a fair bit for their size & are cheap as chips, but the bass of a Kaboom is in another league. Although there are louder b-boxes, it's no slouch. I think you might have trouble landing one for less than $100, though.
Panasonic RX-DTs do well in the bass dept also (1pc or 3pc). I have this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Awesome-Panasonic-XBS-BoomBox_W0Q...eZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem& although its right at the cheap end of the 3pc RX-DTs, its great for bass - loud too...
I have this Sony
CFD-G505 Sony boombox. in the kitchen,my wife uses it a lot. It sounds good and has a lot of bass. I bought it to listen to at work originally, but it's not loud enough. I see they have a newer model
Sony CFD-G700 MP3 model. that plays MP3 discs now.....

Remember I bought my green one for £50 at Cash Converters? It was the best £50 I've ever spent!

Go to this thread and this boombox it thumps pretty good for $15.00 skippy 1969 is selling it on Ghettoblasters & Boombox Parts For Sale Is anyone else interested?????
Hey Skippy, I just bought the CFD-G700CP. Don't let the pic fool you. It's much bigger, louder and bassier(?!?) than the CFD-G505.
Although it can't knock the bass crown off my Kaboom it does have a much better speaker balance with some sweet tweeters. I'm satisfied anyway.
