Here is a short video of my recently repaired and restored Aiwa CS880U. I played the James Bond Goldfinger theme on cassette because I like the stereo seperation and Shirley Bassey's vocals are amazing "IMHO" then I played the radio and then my Ipod with "Turning Japanese" by the vapors, because I think its a cool 80's one hit wonder. I hope it gives you an idea of the power and sound of this unit,it rocks!!! Enjoy....

How many times can this be said 'cause with such excellent work it's never enough...Hand Claps All Around...APPLAUSE!!!!
Fantastic! I love the two sweep meters and the led's in the middle.

kid.sensation - 2008-04-16 10:21
Oh yeah
I remember the most amazing thing for me on the 880 were the nice big VU's with thos poison-green needles.
Yours looks so beautiful in this video..the front looks mint and so does the rest.
Indeed a true beauty and a pleasure to see.
I hope i can get a nice one someday too.My last 880 was just "good" with rotten foams.
One thing i like is that the 880 is rather easy to work on..not like their brothers and sisters
Cool! Seems to have nice power and good sound!
Thanks everyone for the super nice comments!!!!! I wish that you could hear it in person. I had the volume up to about 7 or 8 it was so loud and clear. The cameras mics sounds kind of distorted at the higher volumes.
SOLD! send me your paypal info.
Top Five, period.
daiwa --what are your other four ?

Not really the point of the thread RBJ.....
Excellent work, the CS880 is a great model. Between that and the CA-70/W20, they had some really high quality stuff.
Thanks for sharing the video.
Yes,I agree 100% P.F.
I had a CA70 and a CA W20 and they were both awesome as well. I miss the CA70 the most. Thanks P.F.!

wow-
with PF also --outstanding point !
--------
the ca70 and w20 were in the bbdb with no back views -- they look like 3 piece designs ?
Cant give you enough credit for having the guts and the patience to tear this apart, put it back together and have it look like it does and it sounds fantastic. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
Yup,they are 3 piecers and they have a bass radiator in the center section.

ok skippy -- now i get it -- the bass radiator was the 'connection'
transamguy1977 - 2008-04-16 20:39
I think everyone else has already beat me to all of the wonderful things I was going to say!!
So i will just say this
NOICE!!!!!
Thanks Frank!
Yes Ira,if you have the speakers disconected from the main unit, the bass radiator did'nt function because there are little passages that sound travels through from the speakers to the main unit.

Excellent video Skippy!
It's always great to see these beauties in action.
Thanks Fuzzy,I appreciate that....
Love the vu-meter, LCD and Led-segment display combo !!! a great design, also looks powerfull
Thanks Success!!!! I love the Vu's too, they are very responsive to changes in the music. and like Kid said the poison green needles look cool. The 3 Led's are for 3 seperate peak dbs +0,+3 and +7 dbs.

It seems like a lot of money to me, but I guess it depends on how bad you want one. I think that it's probably worth it. I would have paid that much for a working complete CS880 IF!!! I had the money to buy one. I was lucky to get this one from Sinister, but it was dead when I got it and the cassette needed to be totally rebuilt and the woofers refoamed and the music search p.c board was broken in half, the antennas were junk, and some of the knobs were missing. So My Dad and I put a LOT!!!! of work into it,but it was worth it. I've wanted a CS880 for at least 20+ years. So I guess it depends on how bad you want one James. It's kind of like I would'nt pay $1000.00 + dollars for a nice Jvc RC-M90 or a minty Conion C100F even if I had the money to. But other people whom would jump on the chance to get one because that is a grail to them. The Aiwa CS880 is a grail to me.
thread below is AIWA CA70
http://stereo2go.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6576054064/m/8491019335Aiwa CA-70 , Aiwa CA-W20, Aiwa CS880
ok hijacking a thread here
Since Skippy has a Aiwa CS880 and James doesn't know if you have either of these Aiwa CA-70 , Aiwa CA-W20, ... Which of these 3 do you think sounds the best and or how would you rate them
top to bottem and or equal or....
How do they sound to you ?
Which has the better bass?
or which has the better Treble?
whish has the best features?
grail ... I have 2 Toshiba wx-1's and they sound great how does they compare to these? in the term's of Bass ?

I would say the CS880 sounds better all around (IMHO) I think that the CA-70 is next in sound quality followed by the CA-W20. The CA-70 is a simple unit to operate, the CA-W20 has a lot of finicky little buttons and dual logic controlled tape decks. The CS880 is very straight forward to operate with a lot of features. I don't know how these models compare to your Toshiba WX-1,as I have not heard one in person. I saw Transamguy's video, but It's hard to tell from that.
skippy --these have been very helpful answers --
i think alot of members may be learning alot from your 880 threads -- thank you
Sure,I'm glad to help.
What does that little switch up on the right do?
it controls the little switch on the left.
