i hide in dark corners and also collect these nice old all metal -- super thin , sony CD players --

the newer, fatter plastic models just look terrible rigged to our classic boxes --

but these oldies look just right -- and their line-out quality gets it all

i have just a few -- never paid too much --

but THIS price was a shocker !!

anybody else buy special CD players for their boxes ?

i love these things. so you could imagine my delight when i found out my dad bought a Sony D-5 right when they came out! i now have his, and a metallic cherry-red european model.

Very nice discman, and I'll bet it looks really sharp (no pun or offence to Sony intended!) in red, too! But that price... ooooh, no, that's too much for me!

I prefer dinosaur-sized gear that I can service myself. I always think miniaturized and chip-based circuits are very hard to fix, and far too likely to have "unobtanium" parts, if they break. I may be wrong, since I have never really studied how to repair them, but it is the impression I have. Sometimes I like small stuff - I use an iPod sometimes, and I love my picket-sized Japanese MiniDisc recorder/player, but wouldn't pay too much for anything old that I can't work on myself. Just me; YMMV.

Those are very nice CD players, rbj. The oldest portable one I own is a 1989/90 Sony Discman D-20, in mint condition, with the original box. I don't use it very often for fear of making it 'non mint', but it works perfectly and looks 10X better than the cheap rounded efforts we see nowadays.

if only they were mp3 cd compatible....but wow it would be great playing it on a ghetto blaster

I have a 1991 or so era Diskman style RCA RP7901A hooked up to a BBX...

To another I have my beloved Gemini iCF-X CD Turntable in white...

And I just picked up a MINT, as new JVC XLB-3V CD Player dated 1985 for another! This one is a large size home unit, but its a weird mid size style that doesnt really fit with anything else.

Id post a photo of it, but I took it to my BBX repair Guru to give it a good clean and check up just in case.
