I used to scan the SW bands as a kid, I liked all the different languages and weird music and wonder what far off countries they were comming from but I can't pick up anything on SW anymore. I'm curious, is there bugger all out there? and if yes, anything interesting?

There is only one good mono Ao...that's the one i belive you're selling....sacralige my man....perspnally id pull the auction and tell the bidders to bugger off

There's lots of good Mono's Reno, don't just go by eBay hype.  Monos were around when sound quality mattered, long before all this Hip Hop craze malarkee

I think the Pioneer RK-666 and the RK-888 are both beautiful radios.

That's the one I was thinking of, superb.

My top 5 monos

1. JVC RC-550 - You can't deny it's supremacy in the mono arena

2. Toshiba RT-2800 - Sheer 70's design exotica

3. Panasonic R-5410 - Clean design and Panasonic quality plus that speaker grille

4. Pioneer RK-888 - Oozes brushed-steel quality

5. Sony CF-900 Rhythm Capsule - Points for gimmicks and Sony-ness

Those Pioneer radio's look stunning! Absolutely beutifull!  

There were some lesser models in the Pioneer range

Thanks guys. I really like monos, especially the ones with 70's styling. Got more of them, but these are without doubt the best ones. Sound and looks. You've got a nice collection yourself Seb! Like the jvc monos! They look like mini M70s

That would be awesome ao  Hope you find it! I already started looking for one, but it's not a very common knob on other radios. Also not on Panasonic SW radios. Very difficult to find one I'm afraid.

I already exchanged the trebble and bass knobs with the ones on top, did you notice?  Hope to do the belts around Christmas. It already sounds very good with the mp3 cassette adapter! I will do it together with the LBS in the middle. The one with the nasty sticker residue above the cassette. Still have to clean that one

Yes; now you come to mention it they are a bit like mini M-70's. I love that late 70's early 80's JVC styling!

Yep, they were mounted the sensible way. All the round knobs on the front and all the knobs with a flap on top. But that's not correct

The first among the Panasonics is the best looking Mono ever made. IMHO.

this post is superlative,and i mean that.monos tend to get a bad rap with some folks,on a personal level,if they have good sound and lots of quality features then they are just as good as a stereo unit.my new cf's are all monos-495,440 and 420,and i love them.as for just radios only as monos,i now own both a selena b.215 russian world band set,and a lovely,awesome grundig satellit 2000-ask agent orange how nice they are-he has seen them,and photographed them
