hello to all, this is my first post, but have been a reader for a month or so.

I want to get a Panasonic Rx5050 as my second boombox, since my first was magnavox D8443 and that was a total let down, horrible sound.
anyways does a panasonic rx5050 sound better , louder and can actually handle more bass than the D8443?

or whats another good boombox thats loud and handles bass?

PS: Right now i can't a afford any $200.00 plus BBXs

The louder I have JVC RC-M70 and Fisher PH470.
But I'll preffer my Panasonic RX-5600, because it's more hifi (overall) and still good power.

I wish i could afford an M70, but for i would like to stick with the smaller boxes.

BTW what is the Wattage for Panasonic Rx5050?

The D8443 makes a lot of noise, but not much at all in terms of quality sound.


The RX-5050 has much better overall sound, and is more "punchy" than just about anything its size. It is quite a bit smaller than the D8443 in comparison.

I would also consider:

Panasonic RX-5600
Panasonic RX-5500
JVC RC-880
Panasonic RX-5080
Sharp GF-9090 or 9292
Aiwa CS-600
Aiwa CS-660
Sanyo M9990


All of the above models should be priced at $200 or less for a 100% working version. Good luck in your search and welcome on board.

A good value BBX, nice sound and good power.
Excelent bass deffinition and built quality.
Complete set of features, wich inludes phono and manual/automatic level recording with separate channel control. Metal capbility (while recording) is EXCELENT for a portable.

if you can get a sanyo 9994 good deep bass,the aiwa 660 or the 600 are real good to with the dsl on ,i have the panasonic 5050 it a great sounding box. dont expect bone rattaling bass,the bass is good and radio reception is great and it records real good you may want to try the 5050 you can get them in a real good price

does the Sanyo M9990 keep some bass at high volume? without distortion.

Ramon is pretty much right on and for newbies the RX-5050 is probably the best deal going.

Here's a post I made about the M9990. It is a FANTASTIC sounding box in my opinion. There is no comparison on sound quality for it's size. (Sound quality meaning more than just big bass but the quality of the bass) You would be suprised how much you can get out of this w/out distortion.

I'm not sure what it was all about but it seems the focus has gone back onto what wer'e all here for and that's to share this crazy addiction! My missus bought me a mint M70 for 40 bucks at a flea market in June last year....now they're popping up allover the house and I'm pulling up S2G on the laptop during meetings to see what's up........make that 2 newbies.... gotta be a hell of a lot more out there! whassup?!?
