I have a CFS-66 on the way... How good is the 77?

the 77 is nothing more than a looker.

if you see them big 8" woofers and the "build-like-a-tank"-outlook you may imagine a great sound.

But Sony only put a "tone control" on this thing.
deffo would've needed at least a 3-band-EQ.

still a nice unit!!sound is clear too..but it does not sound like it looks!

well it was not my intention to sound encouraging

but at least that is my humble opinion about this one.
They sell fully working for around 40-50€ on ebay.de.

it still is a nice box to have due to its unique design.
but hey..sound is a strange point..It may sound quite good to another one.But i do expect better sound from 8"

I need something loud and alotta bass is a definite must! I'll focus my attention/money back towards the Crown CSC-950f I'm gonna win.

If the 950 is anywhere as good as the 850 you wont be disappointed

i had the cfs 88 the sound was very poor, not what you would expect out of ""8 woofers.

yeap thats the total truth i have the cfs-99 and the cfs-66 they look nice but sound wise not that great

I have the cfs-77 and I think it sounds pretty reasonable... at low-mid vol, pretty comparable to my m70 when I last played around with it. Also, this box has a pretty unique, chunky look - I like it!

I like the look also... I has an industrial look about it, like it's been forged from a solid block of steel.

Too bad about the testimonials about the sound of this Sony series.

Dunno about that with regard to the CFS-99. I have two of these, and I'll quote Litfan that they "kick like a mule".

Lots of bass, decent highs, and you can crank them pretty much all the way up without distorting unless you put the bass all the way up.

Ahh, the miracle of the large cone surround. They are really more like 6".

Well I had a Sony CFS 99 but James Sold it to Vladi12345678901234567890123456 for the same reason as seen 'quoted' below & also its too nice of a BBox to be carrying around with as its more at home in its use

But the Sony CFS 66 is a Terrific Knock-about BBox if you wanna carry something big impressive looking , made by a BIG name Company around with you & yes it could use more tonal controls and more amplifier POWER of which this is lacking , other than that is sound's OK untill you turn it UP ....

The CFS-66 arrived today... I agree about the sound... pretty disappointing! It can get fairly loud, but the those 6.5" woofers have absolutely no boom whatsoever and the "tone" control is almost a joke! Also, I gotta open it up 'cause both speakers keep cuttin' in and out and I gotta whack every part of the box to get 'em both to work. I'm kinda suprised that the tape deck actually works (a 1st for me)... It won't "FF" tho... Still, I really like the look of the Sony!
