Hey all-
i'm looking to buy my first REAL boombox (i have a couple minis, nothing major) and i would love some advice. I can budget a few hundred bucks and am looking for the best value i can get. i listen to the radio about...well pretty much all day, so i realized i should get something i love. i'd like something large with CRAZY futuristic styling and color, something that'll get noticed, like
this one, or the 777/767 body shape. any model or brand suggestions would be great. i've been doing the ebay thing, but there are just so many, and they're all SO EXPENSIVE.
also, sorry if this kind of thing is annoying or gets posted too often, i searched through and didn't really see anything recent.
thanks in advance...
thats a techsonic or a viking or something, it came in a few different guises, they usually go for sub 400 i think. fact is your lookin at about 400 for a good lookin box i think. try find one you want and then post a wanted ad in the wanted section, *bump it a few times cough cough..* you might just get lucky. ive been lucky many times. a lot of times i got boxes cos i was on here at the right time to pounce also...
well it depends on where you want to be noticed that would for me to have something that I would be carrying around that will get real loud to be heard accross the freeway or just as loud as the local car booming down the street except for the fact that I am walking with this ... just a thought from, James
here this is what I am speaking of and i was in communication with untill this person BIN !!!
JVC RC-550
NED209-that makes me losing the recent 767 on ebay even more painful...it went for 150...ugh.
DecentMan4You- i saw that thing...it looks like a beast. but i don't know if it's exactly what i'm looking for. i'll be using it for my music in the house primarily, and for taking out every once in a while.
well then it basically depend's on your pocketbook and it would be more helpfull if other than you listening to the radio is mostly what you listen to then you could get a B'Box with a non functioning Cassette player B'Box there are LOTS of them out there
YOu need to be a little more descriptive as to what you desire in a boombox ?
Speaker's --- What size? --- how many ?
Radio --- ok ....
how many batteries does it take ? What size battery ?
and the like ... ????
i think the techsonic comment by NED was a great lead. i'll be keeping an eye on ebay for that. i just love the styling of that model. and looking at completed ebay auctions, the prices are right at about $100.

Good luck on Ur quest, the Jvc is a super nice box.
theres a find function at the top of this page, type in techsonic and you will find all the various names that box has had, then a searchin you will go
WELCOME!
That is a cool box in the pic.
If you really just want a futuristic but classic look for a few hundred bucks, you sound like you may be a good candidate for that new Lasonic i931 MP3 retro boombox. They are availale brand new and cost around $200-220 and will play iPod or SD cards.
Lasonic i931Or, if you haven't already, check out these URLs and maybe you'll find something more classic you like as well:
BoomBox BirthThe Golden EraFor a first good box, I think Panasonics are relatively plentiful on ebay and you can get a great box for a really fair price. Excellent bang for the buck boxes. They are very well made, they sound really good, and they sold a lot of them. I noticed that forum-member Sinister has both a Panasonic RX 5500 and a RX 5600 on ebay right now. Thos are surely worth a look, IMHO. I have a 5600 and love it.
Good luck!

If you can find one in good working order, an Aiwa CS-600 or CS-660 would be ones to consider.
It's hard to beat a Sanyo M9935K or a Panasonic RX-5050,IMHO.

So many good and affordable boxes are available that you really don't need to limit what your looking for to just 2 or 3 choices. We could easily come up with a list of several hundred good choices so do some research and find out what style you really like then you can narrow your choices down. All of the major name brands (Sharp, Panasonice, JVC, Aiwa, Sanyo, etc.) have some very nice affordable boxes and with a little patience you should be able to get a really nice box for $250 or less.
Here is a very brief list of good choices just for informational purposes, there are many other choices equally as good and affordable as these.
One Piece boxes:
Sanyo M9990
Sanyo M9994
JVC RC-656
JVC RC-838
Aiwa CS-600
Aiwa CS-660
Panasonic RX-5050
Panasonic RX-5150
Sharp GF-9191
Sharp GF-8989
Three Piece boxes:
JVC PC-550
Panasonic RX-C100
Fisher PH-460
Fisher PH-480
In what country are you living?, that makes a different in prices
i've been keeping my eye out for the tecsonic/clones on ebay, one came up but it had been painted red? weird. anyone else see that one?
masterblaster84- thanks for the list! the sharps and aiwas styling is pretty sweet... definitely gonna keep an eye out.
JT- i saw the lasonic that just came out...something about the styling is wack...it looks kinda cheaply made? or is it just me? i saw that it's going for 200 bucks and figured if i'm gonna spend that, might as well put that money towards something sweet, right? thanks for the ideas though!
sylke- i live in the US.

As Sylke says, a lot matters on where you live.
Look around your local thrift stores, goodwill/salvation army etc...
Flea markets are a great source too.
Local classifieds too. EPay is like a last resort. Many of us have found "grails" in the wild.
And welcome to the forum fatboy
i've always hit the thrifts regularly, probably 2 times a month. the best i've ever found was my sanyo mini... and i can't wait for weather to warm up so i can hit the flea market. thanks for the welcome!
i agree with Pan Fan the Aiwa CS 600 is an excellent sounding good looking radio. Rafe you got a like to the red stereo?
naw, the red stereo didn't do it for me. it was the right model, just the wrong color (and hand painted by someone....?)
