...for people 'in the know'.
For how long was the Sharp GF-777 made?
When were the first ones, and the last ones?
I know about the date being incorporated into the serial numbers on Sharps (first number is the year, second two are the month). My 777's serial number reads 201xxxx etc, (January 1982), but I've seen some 777's starting with a number 5 (1985?). 1985 seems rather late to me, for this type of design.
Does anyone have the answer?
1981
1982
1983
1984
1985
?
?
Thanks very much for the quick reply, *TPR*.
It must have been incredibly popular, then!

That might explain the large numbers of 777's we see for sale. Since these were made for so long were they produced in the same factory for the entire run? If not are there some editions that are better than others?
bought November 02 1981.

yes -----I doubt very much that they moved with the entire factory equipment.
..
5 years seems to be a pretty long time. Whats the longest/shortest a boombox has been produced then?
The production span seems to be reverse equivalent to the reliability/durability.
the tpr950
was one of the long time sellers, first seen listed in February 1978 it was sold in GE till end 1982 (appeared in magazine ad).
short time production no idea.
but:we are hijacking the thread

TPR, the fourth label down on the left starts with serial numbers 711, does that mean it was manufactured November 1987?
I thought about that too ...and waited for you to notice that
....
(not verified dates)
but to get serious: I DO NOT KNOW how reliable these back side stickers are...There might be exceptions as several members noticed.(was it metad or motor?)
On the other hand:
Did you ever notice such molding stamps inside your 777-housing?!
That would be a great opportunity to verify infos!

so are earlier models more desirable than later ones ?

Good question Jens, I don't have a 777 so I can't say. This is a good question for all who have a 777 and especially those that have seen these date moldings inside.
Jens, what do the two molding marks on the right of the pic mean?
Fuzzy, from left to right they would be:
Year -> Month -> Day (1st number) -> Day (2nd number)

Was the GF777 always $1299 or did it become more reasonable as the years went on ? I'm going to open my box up. It needs a good cleaning and I want to see the date codes. I'd also like to clean all the switches from the back side
Cool Info Thanks for sharing guys if the date code is good mine is an 83
I think the $1299 is some other currency other than american dollars? How much did that figure translate to in U.S. dollars or does anyone remember how much they paid to get a new one back then? my gf-8686 cost $300 in '81 so it must be more than that
Great info TPR - that pic with all the serial numbers on it is incredible!

Blaster, thanks for that link - $229 was a great price even back then for a 777. It's awesome that you saved all that stuff.
I guess that, apart form the enclosure marks, the motor label (when contain some date label) you may guees the production date reading the IC parts. Apart from the MAIN NUMBER wich tell us the part number, there are other NUMBERS that tell us the production date of they very accurately.
Each IC manufacturer put the production date in different ways, but is quite common.

yeah thats what we called haggling back then, to get it the best possible price, the 80s were tough times to live by..especially when you were young

That's a German DM price.
I've only owned one and it was made for several hours. Probably no help there.
