As some of you might know i scored a second Panasonic RX-A2/RX-6400.

Well it arrived yesterday and i gave it a quick test.

sound was horrible, everything messed up and dirrrrty.

i tought:

"OK, that's it..at least you have 2 parts boxes!"

But today i gave the poor thing a try..I took off the knobs, cleaned the main unit and finished with a full load of contact-cleaner to the controls.

While the main unit was recovering i went on to the speakers.
I opened them and was very surprised how easy they are to work on.
cleaned everything and put them together again.

after the lunch i went back and brought all parts together again, connected em and baboooM!

The thing woke up and was pumping great sound , as expected from an A2.

The most interesting thing in this whole process is:

I thought my first A2 was complete , just missing the tapedoor.
Now that i have this 100% complete unit i saw that my old one was missing one small silver knob and a small cover on the back ( for the power-supply ).
And now the antenna also works..the one on the old one was stuck in..a joy to finally see how it really works Big Grin

Well i do not have any pics of the restoration or the unit itself. The light in my room is so bad that the pic would be too blurry and dark.

I hope i can get some nice shots of the old and the new unit together on the weekend Cool

Sounds like you made out after all

Nothing like a good ending Big Grin

I need to clean a few of mine and I bet it will help with the performance

Glad to hear the good news, Felix!! Most times, the old boxes only need a little love to really come alive. Smile

Very cool, it's always nice to wake up a box that appears to be done for. Cool

It was the small knob/switch for "MIC POSITION" which sets to Stereo or Mono. Wink

a rather bad quick pic of them both:

i will take the speakers from the parts one for one of my other boxes for a project Smile

rest is still for sale if anyone wants it!

beatbox - 2008-03-14 07:46

OUCH!!!

I wouldn't want to be standing in front of that when it's on full blast...

And that's no exaggeration.

kid.sensation - 2008-03-14 07:58

I had them both up and running after that shot ( of course next to each other..i was afraid that the vibrations of the bass would let them fall Big Grin ) and boy did they pump!!

I really feel the power of them everytime im listening to mine.

had it set up behind me, sitting at the desk with the speakers on the ground..i even felt the vibrations that this thing sent out to my feet..And it was an 2,5 at volume Roll Eyes Big Grin

Nice work Kid. Your patience paid off big time! With all the good info on this box, it's climbing up my wish list! Gotta love a box that's loud at 2.5 vol!! Wink
