Although perilously close to the "what b-box are you booming" & "what are you listening to now" type of topic, I somehow feel compelled to share this with you all.
Currently I have one of these:
...in here:
...with these plugged in:
...listening to some early ELO (10538 Overture, Roll Over Beethoven, etc.) & it's all just a bit heavenly.
There, that's it, I feel better now.
As you were, ladies & gentlemen...
Those metal type That's cassettes are heavenly themselves! Enjoy the rest of the day!
It may be like a "what box/what song" thread post, but thanks for sharing the experience. I can just imagine the feeling ... that's the kind of "life is good" experience that keeps us listening!
Those
That's tapes are quite good. They are the last company in Japan to make good-quality cassette tapes, and I think the last one anywhere that makes tapes that aren't junk. Even back in the eighties when they were fairly new, they won awards for their tape quality. I think they've been the top brand in Japan for years now.
The local authorized agent for that brand of tape here in Hong Kong is an old man with a little green street-side stall (like a garden shed, but made of thicker steel) with a big "That's" sign on it, on some steps not too far from where I live. A still-surviving piece of "old Hong Kong", really. He also carries some other brands, and I surprised him once by buying out his entire stock-on-hand of metal tapes, of all brands. Not a lot of tapes, I think about 3-4 boxes, but that was a lot more than I've found anywhere else. Since almost all of them were no longer made, he charged me "extra" --about twelve cents each extra over the original prices! I was okay with that.
I think some of them must have been old stock that had sat in the warehouse for several years(?), but they were all in new condition. I haven't seen him open his stall in a few weeks now. Hope he is okay. Gradually, some of the older guys I've bought stuff from for years are growing really old and dying off. Sad stuff.
There is another shop I know of that sometimes brings in their own
That's tapes from Japan, but they haven't had metal tape stock for a while now. They say it is getting hard to find, even there. That's sad, too...
As for the ELO music, it's good stuff -- well-recorded and well-mixed, too, as a rule. Ah, heck, maybe I'll go play some...
Again, thanks for sharing!
...I'm up to the 1977 album Discovery now. That has some cracking tunes on it: Shine a Little Love, Don't Bring Me Down... great stuff.
Oop - promised the wife I wouldn't be late. Off I go...
Good to know of this brand of tape as i think that i have some of these somewhere but I didnt know of the Quality of them .... thanks James
