Last week my dad called me from a fleamarket that he sometimes visits during his lunchbreak. It was a goldstar he said and all the goldstars i have seen lokk pretty cool so i told him to buy it. It didnt look very pretty he said but i didn't care. It costed only 4€.
The left chanel works sometimes and does lots of craking when turning the volume knob. Mabye a inside cleaning is enough to fix this. It's needs to be cleand on the outside to bu i havent started working on it yet. The tape runs. Both antenna tips are broken off
All the plasic is very yellow. Does someone know a good way to get it back to it's orginal colour? The model is TSR-580.
Grattis! Nice one..
I like the glue from the heart sickers

No question about it, that was worth what you paid. A little DeOxit and you should have a very nice box.

Nice score! I've educated my dad also, for when he and mom hit all the thrift stores and yard sales.

Good move Fatdog!
I'm trying to do the same with my uncle who is a flea market and thrift store hound. Educating him on the boomboxes to look for is a little tough though, it's a trial and error process.
I love the looks of that radio. It looks really clean!
I like the chrome bar under the cassette keys and the digital clock!
Nice classic design, and BIG!

Why do you like that GuSG?
I'd be getting that off straight away!
wow, looks powerfull, is nice see digital numbers too
congrats
I have two of those!Personally I really like the sound. It has the oldschool highs I am always looking for.The bass is nice also and it's a pretty loud box.Consider yourself lucky as neither one of mine has a working digital clock. That must have been a weakness.I was particularly pleased when I found that the shorter type Radio Shack antennae will lock down on the 580/581.It's always nearly impossible to find lockable antennae as there were so many different sizes.
RA: I was a bit ironic. The funny thing is that I have exactly the same thing on the casette-door of one of my trk 8180:s. Glue from a heart-sticker, exactly the same size. Imposible to remove!

Unless the solvent in the glue has actually melted into the plastic itself, it should be removeable. Just a case of finding the right solvent to do the job. Have you tried these:
(1) Goo-Gone
(2) Rubbing alcohol
(3) Kraft Mayonnaise (apply, let sit a few minutes, then clean with dishwashing solution)
(4) Baby wet-wipes (for baby's butts!)
One --or worst case, a combination-- of these should remove just about any sticker glue. Using cotton wool usually helps get up the softened glue. Sometimes toilet paper will stick paper fibers over it, allowing the softened glue to be scraped up with a fingernail. Sticker glue IS removeable, 99 percent of the time. The rest of the time it has chemically intereacted with the surface of the plastic underneath, but that is VERY rare.
Thanks arkay! Hope I can find at least one of theese...
That is a nice radio Martin!
