The most boomboxes ends up their lives at working places, garages and finally at the dump.
Maybe with a second chance at the fleamarket.
Seen such a box?
Saved it?
Or only took a photo?
Please post it here!
I will start with 2 examples!
An old GRACIA at one working place in our factory:
This destroyed HITACHI i saw on an illegal wastehill next to the road in hungary(Balaton Lake):
great thread!°
featured!
This ones not exactly a classic and probably not in anyone's dreams. However it actually still produced sound and had an asking price!I'm quite sure it ended up at the dump.
I fully admit that I am a little unusual because I feel some products have "soul."
I have taken parts out of junked stereos and such, just so that they could live on in another application.
For example, I might remove the VUs from the poor Hitachi for something else...
My first bbx was a dumpster rescue and the one that started me on this hobby. I cleaned it, fixed it, and it lives in my warm, safe spare bedroom. I hope it's grateful!
Yes, my first real blaster was out of the dump too. The LASONIC i posted in my collection. The fully story comes soon.
If i had only a screwdriver, i had parted out the Hitachi. But i must get the bus and so i could only take a fast photo.
Today seen at the waste-fleamarket in Viennas 16.district.
Poor PHILIPS CompactCompo:
Left speaker missing, door broken, cuts around
It should cost 10euros, so i didn´t take it.
I own the same in very good condition and got it for the same price.
This PHILIPS "freetimer" is located at a friends garage.
It would be saveable....
And this PHILIPS mono i found next to the waste-container.
Bad condition, but now it works as radio in my garage
Wondering why the most are PHILIPS?
This brand was a very big player in Austria.
There were many factorys in Vienna too.
And i own an Philips-Label in my heart.
I learned Radio-TV-technican at the Philips-Service-Center. I loved it...
Dude you could start a parts box business.
Yes, i would!
But i´m afraid nobody in Austria is interested in buying parts. There were many radio-hobbyists-stores, they closed a few years ago.
New electronics are so cheap, that nobody want to repair old radios......
However, today i made a good work at the fleamarket. I saved an PHILIPS tandem soundmachine. It looked very bad and the dealer gave it to me for 5 euros.
(Because of the speakers, the radio itself was worthless in his eyes).
So i found it:
Antenna is missing and many scratches around.
When i plugged it in , it made ugly scratching noise. After cleaning the regulators, it plays very well. The tapedecks not checked yet.
At home:
I decided it´s not interesting for collecting, but too good for parting out. So it will work in the garage, replacing the Mono-Philips.
And this old KAPSCH i saved one month ago from the dump.
Tomorrow i will try to change it, i want to get this one:
Both are scrappy, but i find the other one nicer...
Short information!
Seen the same box then the wreck above!
Ebay:
HITACHI
Today saved from our factory.
In the last moment saved from the trash container.
We´ve discussed about it 2 month ago, now he has got his new radio. Saving in the last moment...
AIWA TPR220 from 1972 (thanks to BBDB)
It will be my first restauration object.
In the next days it´s waste collecting time in an little town next to vienna.
Maybe i will find something interesting.
A few short looks at the corners of the street
Old INGELEN Radio-Corder with stickers:
Old PHILIPS Transistorradio:
Wooden "boombox" EUMIG Eumigette with DUAL recordplayer on top, TATUNG television:
This SOUND Mono i saved last year.
The tapedoor was missing, so i repaired it.
Not very beautiful, but working
:

Everyboxy deserve to live
Yes, this boxes will be rare in the future.
Everybody throw it away, nobody save this.
Old Televisions also!
After changing last year to digital TV in austria, thousands of old TV´s were scrapped.
Short look to the waste collecting:
Interesting and poignant pic.
At one time every one of those TVs was a coveted "new purchase." People agonized over the features, different brands and model numbers, and saved their money. Some of them might have been gifts.
Now look at what happens to them a few years later. Kinda sad...
You seem to have electronic talents Roman. Keep it up.
Many thanks!
Ok, the "talents" causes of being Radio-TV-mechanic! But this job had no future (like this old electronics) so i changed to the railroad.
It´s the time of throw-away-electronics!
But collecting old televisions would not be able for privat. And there is no museum too...
But when i come to the balaton lake next weeks, i will make an short story of the local phonomuseum there. It´s pretty nice. A lot of eastern TVs and wooden radios. I think a few boomboxes are there too...
On flea, before couple of days old Philips RR-202. Just dropped
Nice woody!
I´ve nearly the same at my wreck-storage.
Today pulled out of the waste-collecting:
PHILIPS Mono (only dirty but OK) and a little HORNYPHON transistorradio (batteries leaked).
I will give them to friends, because i have no using for it.
Yesterday at the waste-fleamarket.
Broken HORNYPHON, too damaged to repair...
A few antique televisions and tube radios:
Some "new" boxes are wrecked too:
Sad about those TV's, they contain lead and mercury and other toxic metals and need to be disposed of properly
2 other pics of the "heroes" of our working area:
Minibox PACINI:
This old HAN-TOR i gave to a mate in our station. Still working...
yep i have found lots of things in the garbage dumpsters behind the jam spaces down town.
both of these came out of the trash.
both of them are in excellent shape. nothing missing nothing broken. the candle has a slighly loose volume pot but nothing too ugly.
sometimes i have also found analog synths in the bin.
Now i can say it´s really broken dreams!
Our new management decided, every private electronic at working area must destroyed and dumped!!
So the most things ended.
A few sad pics....
