Scene: You've just received a highly anticipated box in the mail. You open up a well-packed, feature laden boombox. You're drooling like a little kid. You plug the boombox in, ready to unleash it's power. You want to know how it sounds, so you open the tape deck, and put in.....
What song would you play???

I don't know, I don't have the LP. I've never heard of the song 'Working'. And who's David & David?
I have 'Heartbeats - Greatest Hits' on CD. I've always loved Chris Rea's music. A couple of my favourites are 'Stainsby girls' and 'God's great banana skin'.
It's Tricky - RUN DMC
Jump Around - House of Pain
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
The Dramatics - Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get
Pauline Henry doing "Feels Like Making Love" D'Rhythm mix. Don't know why. The tape just happened to be around one day when I was testing a boombox, and I've used it ever since. It works. (Besides, you can't beat a Bad Company song when it comes to a remix!)
The message---grandmaster flash
or
physical attraction by madonna
RockIt - I remember that song. That would be a really good song to try.
There's been a lot of good suggestions here!!!
So many great songs & groups listed so far. Hard to pick the perfect first song. I know I'd like to hear the intro of "Too much time on my hands" by Styx, or Boston's "More than a feeling" at full volume for starters though
I'm with Frank, I'd agree that a "full range" song with horns, percussions, various strings and bass would be the real test.

ERIC B AND RAKIM
"I Feel Love" - Donna Summer. This track STILL pumps today.
"White Horse" - Laid Back. To watch the VUs.
"Sex, I'm a..." - Berlin. Has a Prophet 5 synth diving to bass depths in the beginning.
"Nice Day" - Persephone's Bees (Chris Cox Remix). Awesome phat bass on this one.
"Ride a White Horse" or "Strict Machine" - Goldfrapp. More bassy tracks.
I second the Frankie Goes to Hollywood (FGTH), Rush, and Shannon mentioned.
This one is classic: (The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel) perfect for boomboxes. This one was my favorite for OG M-90!
There can only be ONE.
