Gordie located and shipped a box for me -
it traveled from canada to florida -got it today-
and aside from the usual feedback and collections celebrations (to follow)--
his packing is extraordinary --like, well
worth a post.
keep in mind that this was not a big box --and by most standards - the box is not a big deal--
but he packed like the most holy of all grails.
now, for most of you guys --unpacking a gordie case is a 5 member job
but, instead--i just brought it over to local buddy ramons house (bad neighborhood)
knowing that all it really requires are two very qualified members to get it open.
his wife chased away all our willing bikini models --so all thats in the pics is ramon
-----------------------------
1. for starters, the outer carton was THREE times the size of the boombox.
2. the labels were BIG, clear and taped on
3. the 2 SIDE HANDLE grooves were well marked and are SO seriously IMPORTANT
4. gordie custom cut about TWENTY pieces of thick styrofoam -- to protect all six sides of the inner carton--and to protect the boombox inside that
5. all the corners of the master carton were triple taped
6.the inside carton was all heavy duty thick cardboard
7. and inside that -was also 6 side foam pieces
8. then he secures and even labeled the accessories
9.by the time we were done --the foam and the bubble wrap completely filled the outer case!!
10. both cartons and all the foam is totally
re-useable
-----------------------
dont think it could have ever been done any better --and , even next week, when he sends me the gold conion --we cant expect it to be packed any more secure than this.
imho -nothing is ahole proof --
so if some fedex clown needs to throw it hard against a wall --all this great packing may not protect the internals from that violent shock
but - THIS is as good as it gets ---
GORDIE STYLE

It's hard to tell from the pics, but that JVC is MINT...and fully functional...and the sound...incredible. The lighted up blue woofers is also SUPER cool! Here's a pic i did before i shipped it to Ira:

Nice packing job and great box! Congrats to both for a great exchange.

Amazing to me that all forms of Kaboom - original long, shorter-wider (DP 100 & 200), and mini - have become collectible in such a short time. Prices on eBay seem to be soaring. Let's hope JVC puts out yet another incarnation soon, so folks who want one for the sound don't have to pay a collector price (or endure the hazards of shipping).
Meanwhile, let's all of us keep searching those out-of-the-way discount, department, appliance and electronics stores for unsold "sleepers" lying around on dusty back (or front) shelves... and report back if/when we find one.
too bad can't make this mandatory seminar for epay sellers! way to box the box

Superb packing job.....
I can understand the older kaboom's going for a little bit more nowadays.
All that work for THAT?!?!

Seriously... great thread!
Amazing packaging... I certainly learned a thing or two!
I will be putting that 'handle' idea into practice this very week!!!
wow --BP -you made this little box look enormous and important

JEFF !!!!!
"all that work for THAT"

the slot handles now seem like the ONLY way to go --gordie is a flat-out genious .
I like to think that i have taken good insight into shipping a box (only done it twice), but this takes the cake. Both have survived the journy, one to N Carolina and one to South Florida. (From NYC via Fed Ex)
Jeff I guess I get no "handle" love on the 9292 ehh?
