I just listened to a radio feature about this.They did not collect enough money to bring this project forward.
Nevertheless they will try a restart in the next couple of years.
When they got financial support...
The radio manufacturers stated that they waited too long to finish the DAB transmitting standard.
The NORM for the old DAB is not on actual technical standard anymore .The features are to less- and the variety of radio stations is not enough.
Since the different German pubic radio stations (former 14) ,now 9- waited and waited no decision was in sight -so the project was stopped.
An expert stated:there will be DAB once,but it will not be the one and only transmission way-FM will stay a main branch,and sw mw and lw will be alive a long time as well.

When FM started they said AM will die as well-nothing happened.

(there are some DAB stations in/around capitals but only few on the country side.)

HOORAY for AM, SW, MW and LW transmision.
