Well not really...Ha ha! I actually found a few things today at my fav thrifty joint.
The one that got away is kinda bittersweet!
The box in Question was a JVC pc-11 (little walkman player as cass) Nice box,i saw it picked it up and started playin' with it,right at the same time an elderly man in an electric wheelchair and a lady( obviously his aide) came up. The man besides looking pretty pitiful in his wheelchair had an eye patch over his left eye,the american flag on his wheelchair and a t-shirt that said " i am a Korean war vet". We got to talkin' and the guy was very interesting, turned out he lost his eye in korea, and was losing his feet to diabetes.
He mentioned he liked the bbx,and def would have bought it if i hadn't grabbed it first and started playin with it! Now,i know some of the Skeptics on here will think the guy was some bum trying to pull a scam,NOOOOOOOOOO! He was the real deal,i helped him test the bbx,and everything worked,12.95,i said to myself it's a nice box to add to my collection,no doubt i had dibs, but what the heck let this guy have a little pleasure so i have one bbx less. I gave it up,and handed it to the guy,he actually started to cry!
I felt kinda embarrased, but it was geniune,no crocodile tears. I have 100+ bbx's certainly one less, isn't gonna kill me.
I wandered around and found a nice old 60's table hi fi a GRUNDIG! $5.95. The mgr knows me,saw what transpired with the ol' vet,and when i brought the hi fi up to the counter said" that was a very decent thing u did for the old guy,Go get a pr of Speakers for this!
FREE! How cool is that,i scored a nice hi fi with speakers for $6,and the korean war vet got his bbx, everybody left the store happy!
Rock on jared
what goes around comes around

Thanks Tim.
my feeling exactly.
I dont believe in Karma... I do buy the belief that if you 'Give, it shall be given unto you.'
Way to go... In my mind you did a little part in the fight for freedom. Call me corny, I dont even care... Proud of you Bro!

Thanks Jeff, honestly it felt good, not withstanding my own purchase to see that this man was happy even if just for a short while made me feel really good. The man obviously is not well, whatever time he has left if the bbx brings him some happiness that's cool,i'm sure it means alot more to him then it would've meant to me.
Jared, you will be rewarded for sure. We can't, and shouldn't have everything and that means giving it up even when we know we can take it. Well done.
thats a wonderful story --
glad we know you (really)
Call it what you will, that was a great thing you did today.
On your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.
For JSFLA 'The TAO' is in the house.
They are the true heroes next to Firemens and Police officers. Always believing in their country they serve and willing to give up their life so that we can have our freedom. I know some wars are not worth fighting but we should never blame them. Most of the times is politicians that create wars it's like a game to them. That was a great gesture that you did Jared these men and women in our military are special people God Bless them!!
R.I.P. to those that are not with us anymore!

totally,i served in desert storm, and one of the people there to greet me when i came home(besides family) was a good freind of my late brothers. He now is one of my closest friends,he was a vietnam vet,and i know he had no homecoming like the one that i had. That truly is sad. No matter what, agree with the politicians or not SUpport the troopers. I'll get off my soapbox now!

... so now you've got that going for you, which is nice!

Jared that was a very noble and selfless gesture.
Actions like that do not go unrewarded.

Definitely a kind thing you did Jared, this world could use more kindness like that.
Right on, you did good jared.

Thanks Guys.
Funny coincidence, oldy is waiting for the exact same box from another member here a Jvc Pc-11.
I'll certainly ck my haunts for another for oldy if the member doesn't come thru for him. Hope it works out.
Btw the Hi fi i got mentioned prev in this thread,is pretty cool. I played a bunch of records on it last night and today, and tuned around on the radio.
Weird tuner config on this set,it works on 110 current, but i'm sure it was orig config by Grundig for 220,it has 4 bands Standard Mw(am) to 1600 khz,Lw (which other then Noaa radio is pretty much dead here) sw from 3-12 Mhz,but Fm only goes to 104 mhz not the usual 108 mhz. Not a great big deal but there are a few stations above 104 mhz here in So fla i listen to occasioinaly, and obviously i can't do that with this stereo. Still overall it's clean, and functions Flawlessly and It's a GRUNDIG. Still wanting a Grundig BBx,but this reaffirms my belief Grundig's are just top notch Electronics. I have Several Grundig Sw Radios,This Hi fi,and an ol' grundig Tape recorder from the 60's found at this very same thrift store for 2.95! Grundig= QUALITY!
Great story! I love moments when we remember we are all humans and act accordingly!
On another note, Old school, if you want one of the PC-11's I have a very good one with the back wires cover as well, you are welcome to sort something out with me anytime,
hey james -- thats was kind -- just like jared
but -- be careful with this oldskool character --
he will surely claim that 1/2 your box was dead --
and then trash your s2g feedback
