Im going to have a very serious and much needed clean out of my shed which will include a few spare boomboxes i have kept for possible parts etc.
No real boxes to get excited about im afraid but wondering what most of you would do with the one below for example ??
Do i just take the knobs and grills off and maybe the door and then throw the rest ?
Or would you keep all the internals you could salvage too ? Although if i was to do that i may as well keep the lot, which of course is what im trying to avoid !
Just like to know what you guys think or would do ?
Cheers
What I'd do -
If I'd made the decision it was going, I'd part it out / strip it right down completely - it's amazing what odd bits people need.
Make a 'For Rick' pile and let me know how much you want for them.
Thats the solution!
Rock On.
As you don't want to keep the lot, I would part it out here on s2go, see if anyone wants parts from it, or list it on ebay as a parts box.
If neither of those work for you then just take all the bits you think will come in handy to you or others, and bin the rest.
I'll have the main board if it's functioning.
I parted a 777 out a few years back & covered my costs by selling stuff to this lot.
Ewen, my question was probably not worded right but i guess what i was saying is do you strip it down and happily discard the rest or do you save and hang on to every last part, busted casing and all ?
I know that this box is way beyond most help but i always have the mindset that once they are gone they are gone and it is kind of a shame to see another one end up in landfill.
I think Royal has nailed it, take what you want or need and throw the rest. Job done !
Rick, didnt know you where chasing parts for one of these ??
haha, i thought it was just the case damage that was wrong with it and missing buttons.
I'd rescue it if that was the case!
If it's internally cactus though, parting out is the best bet I'd imagine.
Rock On.
AZA - right on, after hooking out the wanted bits, I would sling the rest for sure.. Have done this before and don't feel bad at all having made several of other peoples boxes complete in the process, so I feel the breaker has served it's purpose.
aza ---there are plenty of collectors that cant spend 300 to 600 on a good 9696 (for example)
but -for a their $$ budget and for the challenge and finally for the thrill of
'i made it work'
these junkers could come alive --or , say , if only the aux-in can play some music--
so --for at least one week --try to offer them for repair as-is.
if no takers --then the parts route
anything is better than any part wasted in the junk yard
you could also trade the box for another box or parts you need for other boxes, thats a nice sharp i dont think i could throw it out no matter if it works or not .
Definitely keep it for parts if you have a working 9696. Place in a box and mark it. You never know what you may need or if someone else could use them.
i parted out an M90 a while back. all i was left with was the bare case and a few boards.
sin --do you still have the case ??
if so - please $$send me a PM

This is a great idea. You should see the box with spare parts i have stashed away.
I'm glad i did because i needed some parts only 2 months ago.
Otherwise i had to wait until something came my way on the bay or somewhere else
