... i think the best way, if you want to destruct a box,is to ship it around!
It must´nt be a big journey.
From Germany to Austria is enough!
Review:
Last time i found a nice "WORLD´S WAVE" at flea.
But with wrong speakers:
Jens showed me a pic with the original speakers an i loved it. I must get the originals...
2 weeks ago i found the same box at ebay - with the speakers! It was offered as non working. But it´s not intersting - i want the speakers!
So i got it for very cheap.
Today the parcel arrived.
First look is good.
No real damage at the packing:
Not very good packed, only with paper. But this should´nt be a big problem:
What´s that? A hole?
Looks like a shot of a gun:
Argh, that looks not good...
After opening it, the total horror.
Broken pieces everywhere!
About 15 pieces of broken plastic and some other parts fell out:
The problem must have been:
The trafo is very heavy, but only mounted with 2 screws in plastic holders at the back. The parcel must have been dropped strong. So the holders broke out and the trafo crashed through the whole box. The motherboard and the plugboard broken...
The box is finally dead!
Front is looking better, only the glass of the tapedoor...
Normally i must get very angry.
But the luck was, that i bought it only for the speakers. Only 2 little cuts at them , but they survived. The body gets parted out now:
After repairing the cables the fist test:
It´s good sounding with the doublespeakers:
I like the style of it:
So it´s a happy end
Why i tell the whole story?
The problem is:
You can protect a box for shipping the best you can. But when there is a weak point inside (like the trafo mounting) you can´t do anything. When the parcel gets dropped fast, the kinetic energy destroys itself.
So pray for all those poor boxes that was destroyed by shipping all the years....
That was very good story,
I was real worried when you started to open it and sh-t just fell everywhere
But everything worked out
ViennaSound, i almost NEVER EVER have boomboxes shipped for that very reason...at least you got the speakers that you wanted
If it makes you feel any better i also received a smashed boombox today...with the same "transformer busting loose" problem...i figured i would give shipping a try 1 last time but it's just not meant to be for me...at least if the seller had packed mine properly it would have had a fighting chance. Your packing job looked amazing compared to the one i received today

Some sellers offered to take the trafo out of the boombox assumming that it will be dropped.
Fedex and DHL enabled !!!!.
Gord, sorry to hear that - what box was that?
ViennaSound - great story, as usual!
Good thing you were getting speakers only. You are right about kinetic energy. There is only so much you can do with packing. It really is about the handling.

Don't ask vladi...it's gone in the trash

Glad it worked out Roman, and she looks DAMN special with the original speakers. Excellent job getting her back to original.
I'm sorry for the main unit though.. shame. Always pains me to see a radio get killed on it's way to a new life after suffering so long in an unappreciative home.
Rock On.
I feel your pain man.......
Those speakers look gorgeous on that box but I'm sorry to hear about the carnage you had to endure.
Thanks boys!
Always think of that when shipping a box...
An the wrong speakers also found a new home!
Now working with the PHILIPS CD-compo in the büro. The other speakers was worse quality.
And the silver ones looking better.
Great story, thanks for sharing - & good to see a fully complete boombox emerging from it.
Some of the stuff on the main unit reminds me of this Bush 7070 I have:
...sliders, tuning knob, deck buttons, LED array, band selector switch, all the same.

WOW, you own a Master Blaster? Thats amazing! Where did you find this machine?
Yes, some parts are looking similar!
Never seen a BUSH before.
But i´m sure it sounds better than the ex american president...
Taken a few more pics, but in the twilight in the evening a strange look.
One for the base?
Also funny:
Some words at the front of the box are german spoken, some english.
Bilingual box you can say...
@AK74: we just spoke about the
Master.Best thanks for the parts offer.
Next days i will get the new endamplifiers.
Then i will tell you the news.

Wow-That's crazy-I'm really glad that your speakers survived!! I hope you can use some of the other parts or what-not.
Have a great weekend-GB.
Thanks!
The switchknob looks similar to the LASONICs.
Maybe it fits...
I once dropped a GF-9000 several inches, maybe a foot...onto concrete! The outside was undamaged, but I heard the transformer ("trafo") break loose inside! Fortunately, it was a straight fall, a simple break, and since it wasn't being shipped anywhere, there was no additional damage. I was able to repair it, including additional reinforcement to help protect against future damage. But it was easy to see how that loosened transformer would have caused significant internal damage!
Although un-wiring and re-wiring it would be a hassle for both seller and buyer, the safest way to ship a boombox is probably to remove the transformer, ship the two parts separately, and re-install the transformer after shipment. Second best would be to add significant internal reinforcement to the transformer mounts, first. Built-up epoxy works well!
Yesterday i parted the wreck out.
The trafo must crashed around inside.
Many resistors and other electronic components was smashed.
At this pics you can imagine how it was mounted.
Much too long plastic holders for the heavy trafo!
When it broke out (the hole behind) the short cables crashed the plugboard.
The everything must have go around inside.
However.... my luck that the speakers survived.
So i´m happy.
Its a great looking box!
Arkay! Great to hear from you!
Thanks JLF!
Finally a short cost calculation:
> Box from flea:
8 euro > Box from ebay:
1 euro > Shipping:
21 euro So i can say i spent 9 euro for the boxes - and 21 euro for wrecking...
that sucks!
Anywhere: for 30euro i have a nice box, spare parts and better speakers for the büro.
Now at the pole position in my storage:
