Just wondering if anyone could let me know what to expect from this kind of Box...ie the good, the bad and the ugly!

Ok, it's very average . . Nothing to shout about in the sound department. Pretty small in size.

Like Royal said, decidedly average and nothing to get excited about, very basic and bland.

If you want a cheap-ish mid-size Sharp look for a GF-8989 or 8585 much more classic looking and heaps better sound.
Or if you like the styling the 525 or 555 are always cropping up on the bay and are decent solid performers and well equipped.
Even the lowly 5757 is better than the 5454, at least you get LED vu metering.

This is a very nice little starter box,classic shape!
Sure there are enough bigger ones - nevertheless I love such small boxes with their unique appearance!A great starter box.

I was wrong about the LED vu's and also I was confusing this box with the 4 series one (4747?)
which has just power and stereo led's.

That bronze coloured one looks pretty nice actually.

Its a good quality box with a decent tape deck ruined by small speakers, I hooked mine up to external ones and was amazed. I replaced the internal ones at the risk of ruining the originality, and I'm sure we're both happier as a result.. The Stock speakers have virtually no bass, the box itself is very good though.

I had one of those once,I should have kept it. A very nice midsize unit,good sound too.

Congrats! it is a solid box. I say dont get rid of the v! They are not easy to come by.

Actually, the 5454 is a very nice looking box. If you have a minty one, that's pretty cool. I haven't heard one myself, but it has classic styling for sure. I agree, keep the VZ also.
