It seems like this box gets pretty good reviews here. But, have any of you ever compared the sound quality of the Telefunken M1 to the JVC M70?

Also, have any of you replaced a tape deck belt for this this unit? If so, how many belts are there and what is the size of the main belt?

I like the elegant design very much and I'm thinking about getting one of these. Unfortunately, the one I'm looking at needs main deck belt.

Some people say it sounds as good as an M90, and others say it sounds better.

It actually kicks most boombox's butts. It is more 'HIFI', than boombox. Mine is INCREDIBLY loud and clear. I have yet to hear something better. Really, it is an astonishing piece of work, and everyone who hears mine is immediately blown away by its sound. Of my 40 or so boxes, this is the only thing that comes near to my actual HIFI system, and that includes the M90, GF1000 and so on and so on.

It is literally 'Da Bomb'.

As for the belt thing, make sure it is that. These babies suffer, quite regularly, from split cassette chasis syndrome. Very hard to fix, and a total pain.

As for getting to the cassette chasis and mechanism: be prepared for some real ball-ache procedures. It ain't nothin' nice, I can tell you...

Its a superb unit and it probbly does sound better than an m90 the only prob with theese is there not as loud on batts as they are on mains,so i would deffo agree it blows the m70 away, what do people see in m70's anyway.

I dont mean to offend and its and it's strange that im not keen on the m70 as im one of the biggest jvc fans out there, but realy if you dont get this studio 1 there are normally plenty on ebay de so i would wait and get one that works, the only real contender to the m1 is the kaboom if you like quality bass but the m1 has it in the clarity handsdown. You will be amazed when you hear one.

It sounds like the general consensus is that the Telefunken boxes are definitely worth having. I saw T/A's thread, they appear to be quite well made, too.

I should have spent more time with the M1 that was at the Florida meet last month and I could have compared it to the M70 myself. There were simply too many boxes and not enough time!

Is that where the bar holding all the cassette keys in place breaks free on one end and all the keys just drop
That happened the first time I tried to record with mine Got it fixed with some patience and JB weld.
It was a royal pain in the a$$.
As for the belt size I had one layin around that fit for the main and tape counter .
Did not have sizes for the belts , just fitted them and its all good now.
This box Soundwise is leagues above the M-70.

BTW the m-70 is the greatest carry around box IMO
The M-1 Not so much , very heavy and sucks on batteries.

jt i would have to say basicly the same thing i have the m70 sounds very good but the telefunken will blast your hears off with that real deep bass and great highs and to be honest not even the m90 is near this box,,yes the m70 is a great box but for comparing would be against maybe the sanyo 9994 which has better sound than the m70 as i have this sanyo,,

OK, I just went through Bobby's pics and see that it was not an M1 at our meet, it appears to have been a CC 9000 instead. Isn't the CC 9000 basically the North American version of the M1 minus a battery tray? Similar electronics inside???

Anyway, even if that CC 9000 was working properly there was no way I could get quality time in all the boxes I wanted to hear that day. And we had so many boxes blasting different tunes at the same time it was a sonic mess...

Next time, we should hook up an FM receiver to a tape deck or CD player and compare all the boxes on the same FM station... At least so the beats don't end up sounding like shoes in a dryer!

No, I have a HiFi Studio 1 that I got from hifitom nearly a year ago that has a bad channel and deck due to rough handling during shipping. I didn't bring it to the meet. The CC9000 Ira managed to shill to me but is willing to wait until 2009 for payment. It too, ironically enough, has a bad right channel.

the telefunken m1 destroys the m70 in sound quality and loudness , but weighs like a tank and built like one. Not the type of box would carry around with ya every day

Is it easy to remove the speaker grills on the Telefunken? I don't like silver grills, so I'd be painting them black if I ever acquire one.

How is the Aux input on these units? Is it a true Line In, or at least sound like one?

Line in is a din plug connector.
You will need an adaptor of sorts.
It is a true selectable line in and sounds fine.
I use my I-pod on mine all the time and am more than happy with the sound.

It's very easy!You just need a bit of patience and a sensitive try and you will get em out.

They are just stucked into the speakers-case but due to the age you have to pull them out very careful.

That's lame. What is holding the keys against the front of the box? Just some cheap glue or something?

The cassette chassis is some really strong thick plastic. It holds the tape mech and keys, as well as the spring mechanism which returns the keys to their positions. Thing is, with age, the spring mech is so strong that it forces the plastic chassis to snap at a certain point. It is a mother to fix.

Yep i have , at this moment i don't know what to do with the 9000. Left amp is blown , tape deck is dead ( belts ?)
I even think the transformer is gone .
It all depends on the transformer what i will do with it.

That Don Mills Pkwy address in Ontario is their Canadian HQ. Many international companies have their Canadian or North American HQ there. Its a huge industrial area.
