ever since I got my Marantz PMS-7000 and saw the lighted VU meters on the Telefunken M1,and thought man that looks cool.
Why can I do that to a Marantz?
So today I took my Marantz CRS-8000 that I got from member JLF,and added my own VU lights.
The mod was so easy I'm can't believe I didn't do it sooner. And best of all it can be taken off easily to be original again without any trace of the mod.
I used 2 12 volt Marantz tuning dial lamps and used 2 rubber cassette motor mounts to use as bulbs holders. They fit perfectly on the premade factory holes in the VU meter housing. Then I just soldered the leeds to the dial lamp power, and it works great and looks nice. I think if the bulbs were frosted they would match the dial lamps, but thats ok.
What do you guys think?
I'm planning on doing this mod to my PMS-7000 too.
Factory holes.
Rubber motor mounts,a perfect fit.
Bulbs and rubber mounts
Bulbs inserted and ready to go.
Night shot.
All ready to go.
looks terrific --
make sure the bulbs dont burn your rubber
Nice work Skip! Add even more class to a classy box!
That's GREAT! I like it! I also like that it is fully-removable... anytime you can have the ability to take something back to "stock" it is a good thing. I wonder why they never lit the meters in the first place....

Don't worry Ira.
My rubbers will be fine.
The bulbs don't get very hot.
The factory mounts the tuner bulbs a similar way,in rubber mounts.
Thanks Oldie!
Spud,I wonder the same thing. The holes are already there,so why not put in the bulbs???
Maybe to save a few bucks.....

Thanks F.D.
I just hooked into the factory dial lamp output.
I just soldered two wires onto the factory solder joints.
They are just micro 12 volt dial lamps.
Cool!
