Last time we talked about good packing, kinetic energy, problems with shipping and some more.
Here comes another example for problems with shipping.
One week ago i got an nice TEC SuperJumbo from ebay. Condition was discripted as very good.
At this poit i want to remember the bad packing of the
MEGAMAX.It was very bad packed, but arrived without great damages.
And so the TEC arrived:
Ok, it´s not really save packed, but much more care as at the Megamax.
No damage at boxing, and the boomer looks also good:
Out now. Looking good and no damage around
The only defizit is a wrong button.
But this should not be the problem
Hey, what´s that.
Why rumbling anything around when moving the box?!?
So better open the box before plugging in.
Also the backside without damage:
Ouch! Aaaah, the speakers are broken out of their holders.....
The speakers are quiet heavy and the holders are very thin. So no chance to survive strong moving
So the parcel must have been dropped very strong and the speakers are broken out of the holders. All 8 holders broken.
Luck: The trafo is also very bad mounted, but it survived
But the speakerholders are finally dead.
I must try to find a way to mount them new
I hope i can fix them soon
After soldering a few broken cables inside it works again
The box is nice, but very cheap made.
The LEDs are not running to the side, they are flashing all together.
Also the sliders tastes very cheap.
Anywhere, i hate when a good conditioned box get smashed of worse shipping.
The best packing can be helpless against strong dropping and the bad kinetic energy inside...

That is piss poor packing from what I see. Newspaper is not a good or shipper approved packing material, they will deny any claim on that grounds alone. Where's the bubble wrap? Where is the second box, foam or anything other than newspaper?
Sorry to hear of your trouble but glad it was the speakers and not the transformer. When the transformer breaks looks everything get's damaged including the boards which is a major problem.
Ok, i agree with you.
For us it´s a real poor packing.
But it should be also a compare to the Megamax.
This box was much worse packed and survived better.
Luck?
I would never ship a box packed like this ones.
But the ordinary ebay-seller does´nt care much about good packing....

Absolutely agree with you there. We know how easy it is to damage these boxes and we are actually concerned about them surviving the trip but the average ebay seller probably doesn't share the concern.
Big cheap black boxes should never be shipped...period.

True. The real reason why i am so disappointed: I told the seller (like at the Max) to pack it good. We talked about bubble wrap and foam. I offered him brainstorming for good packing when he needs help.
And now this....
OK, this was the last time for long, buying a boombox (with shipping) at ebay.
Only here from members or austria ebay where i can get it myself.

I've done the same thing and had the same results. I was reassured by the seller it would be packed very well then I receive basically what you did, it really sucks. Makes me lose faith in all ebay sellers even though many have packed my boxes extremely well but it's always a gamble, you never know what your going to get until it shows up.
Sorry to hear about your trouble Vienna. That box looks colorful and huge. Would using something equivalent to 'SuperGlue' work to permanantly attach the speaker mounts?

There are a 'FEW' known eBay Sellers that S2G members have bought from and do. These select few are the ones I look for. I understand you frustration, but maybe you could ask members (via PM) about an eBay seller when you are interested in another box. Just a thought.
testors model master liquid model cement is the best product i've ever seen for fixing broken plastic ,you can find it at most model/hobbie shops ,it comes in a bottle with a long syringe type applicator perfect for fixing boomboxes.

Well I tried "wishing" some of them to me but it didnt work that well.
Sometimes theres really not much choice if you want something. His box actually arrived pretty good. All of that can be fixed. Sux that he has to go thru that but it will at least be ok.

bash, there is ALWAYS a choice
Good things come to those who wait. There will always be others...patience is the key (along with hunting)

sometimes i wonder if some of these boomboxes are smashed like this before being put in the box.
i mean sometimes i wonder if some of the sellers are just selling things that are broken.

Interesting thought bill, no doubt some sellers do try pulling this one once in a while.
@jvc: Thanks, i will try so.
@bill: True, could be able.
But how to control it?
But my storage place is coming to an end, so next time no hunting at ebay.
But now in spring the great fleas are coming.
Hard times to stay cool.
man that sad
but this is the fear of every boombox collector
,, vienna try some plastic weld
i just cannot believe all of that damage could have occured in shipping. i mean it is total carnage and to me it seems like some kind of scam.
i have to say any kind of blow that would throw the speakers off the mounts would have taken the transformer down too.
thats just my thinking.
i mean to me it looks like someone opened up that boombox thinking they would swap out the speakers totally thrashed everything to hell and then decided to flog off there bad modding skills on ebay.
i mean there is just something way to wierd about what is broken and what isnt on this box.
i like the looks of these but they are super flimsy.
i just cannot see any possible way for this to have been broken in this manner without sustaining extreme damage to the rest of the boombox. its really strange.

I was thinking the same thing, how could the transformer not break off if the speakers did? Not saying it's not possible but I've always seen the transformer go first because of the weight and leverage it exerts on the mounts.
well it looks like the box was facing up then they probably though another box on top sent shockwaves causing the speakers to detach because the magnets are the heaviest part of the speakers unless the box was handled that way until it no longer could hold the pressure you never know the rough handaling these boxes gets,, my buddy had worked for usps and is now retireing he has told me horror stories about the handaling of boxes in the post office
masterblaster84 - 2009-04-06 14:15
Ramon I worked for UPS for one day unloading the semi trailers back in the 80's. There is no handling care involved, I was required to unload one trailer per hour. I was literally throwing boxes down the conveyor belt as fast as I could, package care be damned. Occasionally packages would fall off the conveyor but we didn't have time to care.
I quit the next day, I didn't like the job at all.
Awesome radio Roman!
Is there a chance the speakers were replaced at some stage, and the posts were already weakened?
Either way, I hope you get her blasting soon, brother!
Rock On.
MasterBlaster84, I know exactly where you're coming from. They had me on the loading ramp, where you had to build a wall first, and then throw everything between the spaces.
And believe me, Cats were actually throwing stuff like they were Footballs!!! You can hear more stuff going Snap, Crackle, & Pop more than Rice Krispies!!!
It was crazy!!! I think I lasted a week!!!
But ViennaSound, I'm glad you managed to get your BOX to work. I would've been crying like a baby, and would've been ready to do like Tony Montana and make UPS: "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND"!!!
