So, interviews brought me down to FL for the past week, and today I was in the Orlando area. Being in complete withdrawal, I maneuvered my way into the back of my "stuffed" 10x20 unit to get to the huge boxes, holding amongst other things, huge boxes.
I pulled out my M90, and the RX-5350.
It's nice to have a few with me
ok ok! any pics?
panasonic.fan - 2009-04-08 19:46
Oh, all I have is my phone with me for pics, will take some when I get back to Atlanta next week.
I need to get the JVC serviced, the deck plays but is almost silent. It also is occasionally seizing in the play position.
Is there a doctor in the house?
Very cool Bill.
Probably like being reunited with old friends ehh?
It's a bugger for attention the M90.
Seems to get upset if it gets lonely.
Have you tried the Rec/Play/Rec/Play thing for the quiet playback issue?
The seizeing sounds like it needs a lube too.
If it keeps doing it,
this might help.
Pictures would be nice!
even cellphone pictures
panasonic.fan - 2009-04-19 09:35
Hey Isolator-
Thanks for the info, I'll give them a try.
Ahhhhhhh......
The 5350 is breathing, playing Missing Persons- Spring Session M now. Pictures as soon as I can find some AA's

Though I am slow about posting pics. (No comments from the peanut gallery!
) I do know where my local Wal-Mart or Walgreens is.
panasonic.fan - 2009-05-05 10:27
Doh!
Finally got around to it.
Here's a shot of the Panasonic:
masterblaster84 - 2009-05-05 10:33
Wow, now there's an RX5350 to be proud of.
That picture almost makes me not wanna sell mine - very nice!
that is one cool radio, I should look into one......
panasonic.fan - 2009-05-05 12:11
Well, I was going to sell it to Spud for $100, but it turns out he was pulling my leg.
PF, I'll give you hundred and ten
wow that is generous, I figured something like that at least $300 plus

I saw that... very nice. I noticed Plano in the location of your auction. I am going to be down in Plano TX next week Tuesday through Friday on a remodel job. And at some point a day-trip to San Angelo 5 hours west.
masterblaster84 - 2009-05-05 13:05
Come on Kit $300, what fantasy land do you live in? PF I will give you $10 more than any other offer up to $120.

Not a dime less than $137.84 I tell you!
I wish I could afford your National Vladi, I really want to pick up one of those some day.

That was the only serious part... I will gladly buy it for $100. Heck I will even pay for shipping just to show I am on the level...
Spud, where in Plano are you staying?
PF, I wish I didn't have to sell my National. In fact, I'm going to give it only one try - if it doesn't sell the first time around - I'm not going to relist it. So we'll see. I do offer payment plans though

Okay Vladi I'll take it with the payment plan of $1 a month until it's paid for and I'll pay your BIN of $1200 plus I'll throw in an extra $5000 for your generosity.
I hope you get your price, your due.

Now you're backing up - just when I was about to accept your "$1/month for the next three hundred years" offer!!!
Thanks, Don!
Either at (Cheaper)-
La Quinta Inn Dallas Plano East
1820 North Central Expwy.
Plano, TX 75074
Or (Better)
La Quinta Inn & Suites Dallas Plano West

Plano, TX 75093
I have not booked my hotel yet. (But I always stay in La Quintas if there is one within 20 miles) I am working at the Collin Creek Mall.
BTW I was in Allen TX twice in April...
So you probably know Plano better than I do by now!
What is your project at Collin Creek Mall? Can you buldoze it by any chance? This thing needs to be demolished and built from ground up - ASAP!
I am working on the remodel of the Chick-fil-a in the mall. I handle the low-voltage, point of sale and computer wiring, phones etc. Also security if there is any (none at this location). I also have to drive to San Angelo to see why it took one of our subs 19 hours and $1400 to do 3 hours worth of work. When times are tight bills get padded like you would not believe.
Sounds great! We should have some drinks at Fridays by the mall - they have awesome hot wings!

What is the difference between the one you have and vladi's aside from the cassette door sticker??
or did I miss it??
Nice boxes by the way to both of you.
I am awaiting one I bought as of recently on here from Canada.
fingers crossed it gets here ok.
transamguy1977 - 2009-05-05 14:39
Ok I see the difference Vladi's is a National Panasonic and Panfans is just a Panasonic.
What differences aside from the speaker and name badges??
Looks like the National version is also missing a port in the front left maybe mic input??
Very curious now.
The one im getting is the Panasonic version.
As far as I recall - Matsus-hita used to use National brand for their high end stuff, and Panasonic for everything else. It's hard to tell what the difference is in this case though - I think it's the internals...

nope, they used 'National' brand name for japanese domestic market,
'National Panasonic' and 'Panasonic' for the rest of the world, depends on the market ('Panasonic' - mostly for the North America).
This is a quote from Wikipedia
"National was formerly the premier brand on most Matsus-hita products, including audio and video and was often combined as "National Panasonic" after the worldwide success of the Panasonic name"

Things I notice are:
The National/Panasonic model has single TPS. The Panasonic badged model has 3 song TPS.
The National/Panasonic model does not have Dolby NR: the Panasonic badged model does.
Different descriptions for the speaker system along the top portion of the face (IE Free Edge versus the 20cm and 5cm).
The National/Panasonic model might have more voltage capabilities? Not sure, Vladi can give us the 411 on that.
Anything else?
I think I've seen a variation of one or the other model with just AM/FM, no SW bands. Might have been the Japanese domestic "National" model.
National Panasonic:
- 110-115/115-127/200-220/230-250 V
- 50/60 Hz
- 36W
- takes 10 batteries
- attracts hot chicks (at least mine does)

On the Panasonic:
the extra jack on the left is labeled "mixing mic"
The small knob to the right of that jack is labeled "mixing level"
Back Panel stuff:
Panasonic
External AM and FM antenna connections
Mic R and L
Phono/Line In switch
Phone/Line In inputs
Earth (Phono ground)
Line Out R and L outputs
External Speaker inputs (8 Ohm only)
DC In
AC in
Voltage Selector
The National is (probably?) the same on the back.
Not sure what you call it, but whatever the tuner ranges are silked/printed onto looks like it's a different color. I see a nice purple line across the bottom of the tuner of Vladi's model that mine doesn't have.
Maybe Peppin has seen a National Japanese domestic model and can give us the skinny for that one.

Don't you see the difference ?
Ya, it says *worldwide success of the Panasonic name* - but it doesn't say Panasonic was high-end brand. "National" was. And then "National Panasonic" after "National". "Panasonic" brand was their *cheap* brand - at least that is how I understand it.
quote:
but it doesn't say Panasonic was high-end brand.
c'mon vladi
it doesn't say that National was "high-end" either, but only "PREMIER".
National was their first name.
they are the same, only minor differences such as extra features (mix mic, SW-bands, etc), but in general the are the same radios with the same internal components, only different names for different countries.
you have a great opportunity to open two versions, just open them and you'll see - the components are the same.
panasonic.fan - 2009-05-06 07:49
I think we're all right
Three different models, three different badges, three great boomboxes.
I don't really understand why one particular version of the same model would have Dolby while another wouldn't. I know that the US market was sensitive tying Dolby NR to a certain quality level expectation, but back then I thought/assumed everyone wanted Dolby NR no matter where you lived. It's omission is strange, but all three models are awesome as far as I am concerned.
When we can locate someone with a National branded model, let's do a front back comparison with pics so all the questions will be answered.
I'd be curious to hear Skippy's opinion on that - he mentioned that National Panasonic version had a different main board compared to National (or Panasonic - not sure which one)
masterblaster84 - 2009-05-06 08:20
My National Panasonic sounds markedly different than my National so I'd be curious as well. It also has some other differences such as one has a weighted dial and the other doesn't.
quote:

that's because of the different extra features, such as SW-bands, mix mic, etc - additional features need additional circuit, but in general they are the same, and have the same class of the components.

Oh yes, looks like we have a National in the house!
Don, which one sounds better? Now you got me all curious!!
Metad - I think you're right - main board difference due to different set of features. I wonder if they made more Panasonics or National Panasonics though - it'd be interesting to look at their production numbers
masterblaster84 - 2009-05-06 12:14
Vladi I'm haven't passed any judgment on true differences yet since it could simply be due to age, wear or component failures.
Right now the National (Japanese, 100v) version has the weighted tuner dial and has a noticeably stronger bass. For sound this one gets the nod but for looks I actually kind of like the National Panasonic better, different Mic grille arrangement. I would have to go look at them again to be exact about the visual difference.
Hey you guys were talking about postin' pics and stuff. An Ol' Timer like me, still doesn't know how. I'm still shootin' flicks with 35mm. But I do have a camera on my Razr Phone. Can I post pics with that?

Interesting. The US domestic also has the weighted tuner dial. I wasn't aware of any version not having it.
