Nothing.
Come with me, {OldSchool Scott} as I bring you on a journey through the streets of Baltimore Maryland U.S., to the thrift stores that I frequent, in what can only be described as an obsession for the hunt.
"Grails of the wild and a whole lotta nothin"
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 14:56
It's 10 am. I can't hit all of the stores simotainiosly as the doors open but I do try.
I make my way to the electronics department greedily looking over my shoulder....nothing
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 14:59
lets give this one a try then,
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:02
sigh..
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:06
Goodwill has given me some luck in the past.
some small classics, three piece black models, my RXc52, but nothing in a while.
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:08
and nothing today...
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:11
I guess if I was into collecting this sort of stuff I'd be in luck. any CD player collectors out there?
Cool stores. That's about all I see even on a lucky day - VCRs and speakers primarily.
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:14
I see lots of these
OSS --
your value village thrift photo --looks exactly like every place down here in my part of florida --
its always 20 or 30 VCRs -- and no boxes- EVER
transamguy1977 - 2009-04-16 15:18
Now I dont feel so bad.
Same crap I find around here.
old vcrs and karaoke machines and the occasional
egg here and there. nothing worthwhile.
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:23
It's two days later...Thursday morning 10am.
today is when alot of electronics get put out in Value Village. I'm at the starting gate with 5 older gentlemen.[older gentlemen in Baltimore love there radios. i have competition today} The door opens and I make a casual stroll to the electronics section accompanied by my competition.{it's really like a mad dash to the electronics}
nothing...
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:25
this looks kinda cool..
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:27
but where would I put it?
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:32
well I guess a quick stop in on good ol' GoodWill. it's 2 days later maybe could be....aaaand nothing.
HEY WHAT"S THAT??!!!
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:37
Ladies and gentlemen, my attempt to show you my futile searchings in Baltimore has backfired, I see what looks like a pretty cool SEARS boombox and I'm excited. I look over my shoulder and quickly move in to investigate.
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:42
I've never seen a dirtier box up-close.
I grab my meger score and march proudly to the cashier. there's no price on the box so she has to make one up. I may be the only boombox collector around here and I know exactly what she's going to say...8.95$
old.school.scott - 2009-04-16 15:49
She shines up nicely and is in perfect working order eccept the tape plays a little fast, I use ipod anyway. She is my 11th box, my urge to hunt is satisfied momentarily, It's a nice day out I think I'll play some tunes for the public on the ave.
the end

This thread is sheer genius!
I think it needs to be 'saved' and we can all start adding photos of our boxquest at the local flea, second hand, etc.
masterblaster84 - 2009-04-16 15:53
Cool box, I've got one it's siblings at my office. Does a nice job as an office box and the funny looks I've recieved have been priceless. Some people think I'm nuts and a few thought it was pretty cool.

Thanx for the feedback, fellow enthusiasts.
That was truly an unexpected twist at the end there. I was making the photo collection to mark the end of the hunt because I almost never find anything, but in light of the new score, after a brief break, I do believe I'll return to the quest.
