A few months ago I made a 'Ghettoblasters Wanted' flyer up that some members have had great luck with. One of the places I made sure I dropped it off was my cities Dump/Recyclers that I scored my GF-777 from this time last year.
So theres been nothing for months, then on monday I get a call at work:
"Hi Rick, we've got another ghettoblaster for you, it's big but not as big as the other one, the antennas broken but it works, it's an Aiwa. Looking at AU$30 (US$20) for it if you're interested."
And of COURSE I am! I didn't get the serial/model number, although I was tempted to call back and get it, but I thought it'd be more exciting to just wait and let the anticipation build.
So, tomorrow I go and pick her up. What's it going to be?? Full details/photos to follow then!
Place your bets ladies and gentleman!!
Rock On.

The anticipation can be just as exciting as getting the box. Good luck, I hope it's one of the big Aiwa's.

the antennas broken
if it's big, but has a single antenna, it could be CS-600, CS-660, or.. CS-770.
And to put everyone out of suspense.. my new Aiwa is............
Drum roll please!!
TA DAAA! An S100!!
Beautiful radio in less than perfect condition, aesthetically it just needs a clean, but she's got one speaker that needs refoaming and one that's woofer isn't functioning at all. So I might look for some replacement woofers for her.
The tape deck isn't responding but I can hear the motor constantly running, so I'm hoping it's fixable with some new belts and a clean, feels like the play mech was engaged when the belt went or something.
But she's a lovely piece of work. Anyone got one to give me a mini review to spur me on to fix her up asap?
Rock On.
I can't find an Aiwa S100 in the 'base.
Is it a CA100? (big 3pc). It can't be the CS100, which is an uninspiring looking mini...
Ah! yeah, sorry, rookie mistake.
It says Aiwa Stereo 100 on the back label, then in smaller print after that has CA-100HG
Thanks for picking up on that Iso!
Rock On.
I believe Mono has one of these.
Congrats Gluecifer, you got the nice piece.
I liked.
Good luck in repairing.

Congrat's Gluecifer!!
That's one of the first boomboxes I found in the "wild". It's has great sound. I had the same issue with the woofers. I couldn't find any replacements, so I'm using it with extra Sony FH7 speakers I had. The bass with these speakers is amazing. I have to keep the DSL turned all the way down, it's so bassy.
Nice box Rick! I'm just so glad for you, that it wasn't a modern egg! Is it a keeper?
I think it might be! I'm yet to hear her outside of using headphones so far, but I got the tape deck all running ok today. It's not what I'd call 'silent running' but it's hard to know how audible the tape deck will be when the sound is coming out of the speakers.
The chassis inside is the same used on a double cassette deck model, which looks pretty funny, but the speaker boxes are wood and should get some very clean and powerful sound when combined with the DSL bizzo, as noted by Peter Griffin.
I'm definitely going to replace the speakers (pretty sure the voice coil's screwed in one, as well as both needing refoaming), and I think she'll be a keeper then. Looks like it's a reasonably high-end 3 piece, even with re-used chassis. And it's only my second Aiwa, so I reckon she'll stick around for a while.
Rock on.
