Came across a GE-3 5259a today. It's pretty much the same as a Realistic SCR-8. You should see this thing!! Very nice condition. My friend had the same exact one back in high school (SCR-8). What would be a good price to offer for this thing??? I was thinking of going as high as $50. Any thoughts??? Thanks, John

was this an ebay auction or in the wild?
Just got done playing darts this afternoon @ my friends repair shop..... and while walking home I went by an electronic repair shop that I have NEVER seen before. Walked down this street a 100 times...... anyway I see a rather large boombox on one of the tables inside. So I go in and check it out. The owner--- it's his box.... says he uses it as a test unit, whatever that means. I show him pics of my 2 Lasonic boxes and then tell him I'm very interested in his. He didn't have much of a response so I left it alone. What a nice box though. It's the fairly big one with 49w output. Very loud!!!! It has 2 meters above the tape deck. The SCR-8 had LED meters instead. I will go back Monday and see if he would part with it. If not, I will at least get a pic and post it here. John
1. offer him some thing more modern with a nice cd player and a i-pod port
2.tell him that the money you give him will get a nice new smaller easy to carry / less room more modern unit
sorry to say you should never show all your cards - by showing him you boxes, he now knows that he could get more money as it's collectable and that you want it so you might pay more
at this point you have to play the game - and not show too much intrest.
A good to try and see if he want to sell is when business is very quite - find a day when it is very slow and not many customers - mid morning on a wednesday about 11:15am or try on a saturday afternoon about 20 mins before they shut - it gets slower and they want to close and go home, but one more sale would do nicely
hope some of this helps and good luck - cheers B
Went back to the guys store today. I think I got a bite. I'm sure he will sell it but I need to find him a replacement test box. I can get the GE for $50 but then he is going to need something else. Good to know I can get the box though. That thing is awesome!!! Sounds great to.
Bendy.... I had to show my cards..... he is an electronic repairman.... wondering if he could work on the Lasonic. He doesn't do stuff like that, more into computers, etc...
Good news is that my Lasonic 975 goes in the shop ( a diff one) Friday. Can't wait till I get it back and it's near mint condition. Well excellent condition anyway. Pics to follow..... John
well done mate
is there nothing good and cheap on ebay that you could impress him with ?
maybe some thing with DAB (if you get that there ?
)
some thing small with a big sound
good luck

You mean, 49 watt power consumption. Not the same thing as power output. If it is the Blockbuster, it's a nice radio, but like the SCR-8 the bass gets muddy when you crank it up some. Plenty loud though, just turn the bass flat and the volume up
