looking on ebay it seems to me that the US has better boxes than the UK - where that's because these more to choose from ? the market was bigger in the US than the UK
don't get me wrong there are some nice boxes in the UK on ebay, but the big one's tend to be more in the US or even GERMANY (lots there to)
But it's the shipping that can kill it for us UK fans
i get most of mine from the recycle centre or dump - people just chuck them out thinking that no one want's them
i don't know of many shops that sell them here - charity/thrift stores can't always sell electrical gear for fear of killing some one - so they don't take them in - just bin them
don't know what the shops are like in the US ?
so what do you lot think - better finds in the US or UK - maybe both ?
lmk - cheers B

i dont think any where can beat the US for boxes,
In the US,the amount of boxes for sale is amaizing, but so are the high prices they all sell for..
Germany used to be cheap but even prices over there have got out of control,And another major issue with most sellers from germany,They dont accept Paypal, with that and crazy prices..thats why i dont buy from there..
As for china, ghetto`s used to be quite cheap before they found out about what they can get for them, now from what i can see, sellers have got wayy too greedy, asking too much..and shippings a killer..
UK is ok,but even here we have some silly bidders with more money than sense..
Thats why i can only afford boxes with issues, because full workers sell for out of my price range..
i cant grumble because the past 2 months i`ve picked up a couple at a reasonable price, but that is rare for me and it probebly wont happen again for a lonnnng time..many months,or even years

Needless to say, I would prefer it if Chinese boxes were dirt cheap but reality is that even though they are asking too much, (especially since they are available here in U.S. as well, often for much cheaper) but it's a free market here and as long as folks are paying the big bucks (and they are), why would Chinese sellers be willing to sell it for cheap?
Looking at it from the other end, if you were a seller, you'd probably want to get as much as someone is willing to pay, right? I don't buy any boxes from China because I think that the prices + shipping + risk (forget paypal protection, to get it, they'll require you to send it back and what's that gonna cost in shipping $$$??).
The US may have better Boxes, but most of them come from JAPAN!!!

i aggree fully with you stormin..Good points !
And yep KB,most boxes are made in japan, but i do have some boxes, like my big philips, that has got Made In Austria on the back..
Jared, shipping from UK to Usa is probebly one of the most expensive in the world,uk is a rippoff for recieving boxes from abroad too because of the damm import tax we have to pay..

If you check out the yahoo japan auctions and the ebay german auctions...they have alot more variety of boomboxes compare to the states and canada..so my vote would go to germany and japan...they are the leaders of electronics during those times of the good ol'' days

Yep, one of the main reasons why I still haven't pulled the trigger on any boxes being offered by the UK sellers here. I felt the prices were quite reasonable. However, once shipping was factored in, the total became deal killers.

Yep same here, the only box i had from the U.S was a sharp GF9500 from hugo driptip,he gave it me for free because it needed parts, but the shipping cost me £50,i fixed it up and i still have it,and...i cant see me ever wanting to part with it so i was happy..hugo is a great guy..
