1990's boombox's

pioneer - 2009-07-02 01:46

Hey Guy's and Gal's....i am an oldschool fanatic love the classic's....but i also collect the 90's era of boomer's aswell... jus wondering if there is others who think that these too one day will be sought after.....im not talkin junk brands im talkin higher end 90's box's Sony,Jvc etc.Smile

im.out.of.hear - 2009-07-02 02:50

Hello..if you want a nice 90s box,you MUST buy a Panasonic DT680,or CT990..they sound mean..the bass..ohh the bass..deep,soft,clear,but it does`nt lose any highs, the highs stay nice and clear.....infact,they sound better than most 80s old skool boxes..
Only negative point with the 680,when you turn it up with alot of bass pumping,it can make the cd jump..

pioneer - 2009-07-02 03:53

Hi Gettoman I Agree totally....the panasonic's do kick some serious butt.I do have 3 of them in my collection,Panasonic RX-DT680,RX-DT680 Platinum edition.and a RX-DT60....anything back in the day, compareable in my opnion i would say the JVC PC-55 or Yamaha PC-9 Compo. The Sony FH Model's also give a good bang for the buck.......hope they too will become sought after. thank's

tpr - 2009-07-02 06:44

awesome -but ....very rare:

Then of course, there's the almighty JVC Kaboom (late 90's-2006). These are already highly sought after (good used examples are getting a bit pricey, though).

+1 on the Panasonic models mentioned above...plus those can still be found reasonably priced.

As for Sony, they really took a nosedive in the 90's. Durable, but cheap sounding, bass-less eggs for the most part, though I'm sure there are exceptions.

SmileThat Sanyo is one Dangerous piece of Machinery!!! Double Cassette with a Double CD Player. I could really do some damage with that one!!!

BTW, how many watts is it pumpin'?

I love that one Jens. Though, it isn't portable I believe (doesn't take batteries).

your cd player may be cleaning. I used to have one where the bass would cause it to skip. I bought another one after my first one got dropped. The replacement dosen't skip at all and I play it with the volume and the bass cranked. You're right though, it is one awesome box. Bass is amazing!!

bendycat - 2009-07-05 14:29

Would you by chance have a spare remote or did your's not come with one ?

cheers B Wink

So top 90's box goes to the panisonic RX-DT680 then ? or is there a better one for great rich bass ?

obtuse - 2009-07-05 15:13

That honor would have to go to the JVC Kaboom.

I'm not so sure. The kaboom is definately a bass monster, but when I tested one at Circuit City years ago, i came to the conclusion that my dt680 had better bass response. It got louder and hit harder. On the kaboom, the bass starts to weaken as the volume goes up to minimize distortion.

aa.fussy - 2009-07-05 18:38

I just a got a Sharp WQ-CD240. When turned up at full volume, it's very loud.

I like the bass it produces-quite nice.

erniejade - 2009-07-06 13:13

I only wish the 680 had a aux input but beyond that, it is one of my daily units that is for sure.

tpr - 2009-07-06 13:50

yo, the ph-wcd 950 models are taking batteries- Big Grin
but - just for the clock!

... right, they are not portable.:::

pioneer - 2009-07-13 00:36

Thank's *TPR* i do have a few boomer's that don't take batteries.and i think it would be classed as a portable stereo rather than a boomer......but they did make some nice one's this way. Frown too bad about the battery thing.prolly would've been to darn heavy...

hifitom - 2009-07-13 01:29

Hello

The best sounding unit of the 90's is the Yamaha AST 10 (or YST 11) - only problem, it's a carry combo, don't work with batterys. But sounds as good as a Telefunken Hifi Studio M1 + had a lot of goodies.

If you are looking for a great sounding unit with looooot's of bass, this is the one to go for. Price when new was about 1500,- US (over 2000,- DM) which speak for the quality of this unit. They are rare, but sometimes you could find a unit for very little money ...

Best wishes
TOM

Another nice one that I have is the JVC RC-QC7.

It has a 3 CD changer-which I find to be very cool.
