Which unit would be better for constant or everyday use taking into consideration durability. I use use what I buy. With that comes the maintenance. I see parts lot's for say Sanyo and Lasonic's.
Are specific boxes a little fragile as far as components like volume control pots (scratchy noise from dust) Balance switches and so forth. The box I get will be used but very well taken care of.
My daily driver is a 65 Mustang. I drive it daily since first, the quality of the car is by far better than today's plastic cars. Second it's styling. Timeless to me. So I plan on using the box I get daily and if costs a little more than what I can spend than I can save for that.
Trust me even though I'm going to use it I do take care of my stuff. My son still marvels at my original S.W. 12 inch figures I have in a box that my parents bought me new after the movie came out. 1977 baby, used but still loved.
I think the best durable box would be the lasonic 920, or the jvc kaboom
Also has anybody had top use speakers that were other than OG due to a lack of availability but were impressed by the upgrade.
Thanks

Hard to say.
A belt is a belt
and will need replacing.
As for scratchy controls
it can happen to any control.
My 950 runs very good since 1978:
.....
top sound.
first head.
first dial light.
first pinch rollers.
third belt.
Every 10 years a new belt- that`s indeed
acceptable.
Brilliant reception on all waves.
No pot scratching at all.
used tapes :
1.)very old tapes from the 60s,
2.)TDK ,sa-x
3.)MAXELL, ud-xl
4.)BASF ,all

Oh and not many boombox's
have the fancy extra hard tape heads.
That would be a feature to look for.

just by searcing ebay you will find the box that shows up most consistently is the JVC m70 and I think that is because of its quality and durability. They are built like tanks
Thanks Guys for the info. I agree blaster on the M70.
I have no fear of taking one apart to repair it. I'm just laying out what I would need to take into consideration for possible repairs. I figured that some members might pop up and say " brand such and such are tenderfoot's, they are better on the shelf". But it seems like these boxes are tough.

My opinion is that all
the flipper heads will
break a wire some day.
If a deck gets a good
overhaul it should work
well for a resonable time.
Yep the M70 is close to the perfect box of its type. Build quality far superior to the box it replaced (the RC-838), and far easier to work on
