Hey all. I know we all have ranted and raved about the prices on ebay for boomboxes and I think it's about time to do something. I know this sounds cliche but we're the ones letting them **** us over with prices, most of them used are going for more than when they were new and fully fuctional
We BUY these boxes because we want them but they should be within reason, I know I love boomboxes too but we are just fueling the fire when we buy them at sky high prices, like the Conion- going for $600 and up, or a stupid soundesign tv bbx for $250 AND ANALOG TV IS DEFUNCT AND NO LONGER EXISTS WTF! My point is that we should all STOP BUYING THEM UNTIL THE PRICES GO DOWN-AND THEY DO! I held out on a TRC-975 for a month and badgered the seller into submission until I got it for $60. And he had it going for $135 before. We all should just sit back and watch the prices go down. We all know the sellers don't pay HALF what they sell for and sometimes they don't pay a thing. I am just venting and am sorry but this is the truth. If one seller drops his price and makes a sale, then more will do the same. and it will mean lower prices for all. Yeah, but keep in mind WE here are a little fanatic about boomboxes. For the rest of the population who cares about a BIG, heavy radio that only plays TAPES. Today people want small MP3 players that can carry their entire collection.
It is US here that will buy or sell our boxes for way more then flea market prices. Not all of us... but most.
For example.... my upstairs neighbor was moving and he THREW OUT a near mint Lasonic 975. I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked outside and saw it sitting with the rest of the trash.
Needless to say.... I got it for FREE. Now that I have learned alot from this website in the last couple of months I don't think I'd ever let it go for less then $200 bucks. It still has the protective factory plastic on it.
So why would one person throw it out, and another charge $200 for it???
I do agree with you about Ebay though. Everyone thinks they have something vintage when in fact it is not worth much at all.
But there are good deals to be had out there. Yard sales and Goodwill are great. Dumpster diving is also fun.
The days of finding the dream box you want on Ebay for next to nothing is getting exceedingly rare.

I`ve been saying ebay is ridiculous for years man..when i sell anything it goes for nothing,but when i go to buy anything i get shot down..and it ends up going for stoopid money,alot more than my top bid,sometimes it leaves me flabbergasted..
i dont buy much from ebay anymore,i leave it for the crazy heads with deep pockets..
here`s my clean pc5 with refoamed speakers..
We should all sign a petition asking sellers to sell things to us at 30cents on the dollar and ignore the high offers that silly buyers are throwing out there. We want cheap boomboxes and we want them now, damn it!
Unless, of course, the item for sale is mine. Then, please, bid away!
Agree. Ebay is ridiculous! I've only recently started getting into boomboxes and the only boxes in my collection all came from swap meets, Goodwill or garage sales. I've been collecting walkmans for a while now and haven't found a decent price one on Ebay in a while. The good ones go for way too much.

Ebay is not ridiculous.
It works as it should. Everything is worth as much as someone else is willing to pay for it.
I collect old school rap and electro records too and the prices are also getting very high. But like many people on here I go to flea markets, pawn shops and garage sales. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt. And of course getting something for a few bucks that someone else paid 100's of bux for on ebay feels great too.
If I was stinking rich I would probably buy more of the rare vinyl and boomboxes on ebay. But...it would never stop me from searching for deals and treasures

not just someone getting there
junk out of the house anymore.
I agree with everyones posts,I guess that what I'm trying to say is that their prices should start VERY low. like my auctions.
Example, I started an auction for Lasonic TRC-931 parts. included in the auction were 4 EQ. sliders, All of the control boards with pots in full working order, all the tape deck belts, tape deck buttons top and bottom were *mint*, every switch button and dial, and even the battery cover, I started the auction off at $0.99 and $14 UPS shipping (actually cost me $16) but because I offered these rare parts and everything at such a low price it was a more comforting auction for potential buyers, they never hesitated to bid on it because the price was so low, In the end 13 bids were made and I recieved $45 for the parts and even shipped some extras, just to help the guy out.
I had several conversations during the auction and actually was rootiong for him to win because I know he really needed the parts to finish his resto and I have since chatted with him to see how it turned out and it was in his words "PERFECT!!!"
I am just saying the prices should start lower because there is more potential of selling an item with a low price, rather than starting it with a high price
Most of the time E-bay is simply flooded with non-informed buyers. Then it turns into a bidding war that no one will back down from. Suddenly the price is ridiculously high but the buyer does not care since he won and that,s all that matters.
Take the flea markets. Most of them here have now moved to selling new knock off's. Gone is the day where you buy second hand stuff. Our flea market is like shopping near the border. New garbage copy cat stuff. I'm screwed here and I'm stuck with no real avenue to buy a nice B.B. And craig's list is dry. I'd be willing to travel to Austin or S.A. if need be. All I need is one.....

If you can afford it, go to Japan, I believe is the only place you can still find mint or near cond. items...NY city might still be an option, too... maybe LA, Chicago, Detroit, any big city famous for break dancing and with low income neighborhoods, as BBx's were and still are better sellers among mid to lower income buyers.

NJack brought up something: I have a nice collection of LP's from 70's and 80's I'll part with for $2 to $4 depending on artist, or with the jacket for a little more (I can get $25 on ebay for a famous one like "Hotel California, already checked) without including the actual record so if anybuddy's interested, all my records are hardly played, in near mint shape and some are still shrink wrapped. When I DO play them it's on a vintage Gemini with 1.5 G and related anti-skating. At that point I put them on a CD.

I could not agree with you more Guing1.....But E-bay has really strayed from sellers to individuals that sometimes lack that "professional Quality". Most will overprice the items in hopes that someone will "impulse" buy. I agree if a seller starts of the price accordingly then the items will sell close to a correct value. But the market is still filled with non informed buyer's and they unfortunately drive a false market price. I cant complain, but I have not overpaid for items though. I just hope they become a little more affordable.
Well that's the time we live in, but
JVC RC-W40, Pan RX5090 and, of course, JVC PC5
are not too expensive.
In December 2007, in Moscow, I was happy to buy a Sanyo 9994 (in a good condition) for $120.
